Drinking water is definitely good for your overall health. But if you are drinking excess water particularly before going to bed, this might be something you should work upon. Consuming excess water at night causes you to frequently visit the bathroom in the midst of your sleep. This can potentially affect the quality of your sleep.
Always drink more water in the mornings and reduce the intake at the end of the day, especially before bedtime.
Now coffee is known for keeping you up late at night. This is mainly due to coffee’s caffeine content. Unless and until you have some really important work to finish within your deadline, why would you want to drink a cup of coffee and ruin your sleep? It’s always good to have a cup of coffee early in the morning to kickstart your day and not before you sleep.
3. Alcoholic Drinks
Having a few drinks occasionally might be fine but alcoholic drinks aren’t going to help you sleep any better. Initially, alcohol might help you sleep easily but it messes with your REM stage of sleep. This is the stage of sleep where your body recovers. You shouldn’t make a habit of having alcohol before sleeping as it might affect your health in the long-term and also cause sleeping disorders.
4. Sodas & Energizers
There are a lot of soft drinks in the market and you might be tempted to have them. But, make sure that you don’t have them before sleeping. Many soft drinks contain high caffeine content which is a strict no-no before sleeping. Also, soft drinks aren’t too good for your overall health either. It is better to stay away from fizzy drinks and stick to fresh juice instead.
A cup of tea might be tempting after dinner but little did you know, some teas have just as much as caffeine as coffee. Prefer green tea instead and the various health benefits of green tea will surprise you.
Green tea does not affect your sleep quality.
6. Have a Light Dinner
If you are planning for a good night’s sleep, you should refrain yourself from having a heavy dinner. This is because a heavy dinner is more likely to keep your body occupied in digesting the food and might also give rise to heartburn. A solid & healthy breakfast, a medium lunch, and a light dinner is the way to go for a good night’s sleep as well as a healthy lifestyle.
Eating the right foods before you sleep is very important as you sleep what you eat. Make sure that you are keeping a track of what you eat or drink before bedtime. This will make sure that you have a healthy uninterrupted sleep and wake up fresh in the morning.
