FERROUS GLYCINE SULPHATE

Information for patients
Drug Information Ferrous glycine sulphate, a hematinic, is indicated for the treatment and maintenance of iron-deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.
Drug Alert
Alert Ferrous ascorbate is contraindicated in patients with supplemental iron hypersensitivity
Before Consuming the Medicine
Avoid Drug Ferrous glycine sulphate is contraindicated in patients with haemolytic anemia, hemochromatosis, hemosiderosis and other iron overload disorders.
Drug Special Care Ferrous glycine sulphate should be taken after meals. However, the absorption may be altered due to pH alterations. If required, take other drugs at least 2-3 hours after Ferrous glycine sulphate administration.
Drug Drug Interactions may interact with calcium supplements, methyldopa, penicillamine, bisphosphonate, levodopa, tetracycline, antacids and quinolones.
Drug Pregnancy Interaction USFDA pregnancy category B. Ferrous glycine sulphate may not cause harm to an unborn foetus. Before Ferrous glycine sulphate treatment, the patient should discuss with the physician, if they are planning for a pregnancy.
Drug Breast feeding Interaction It is not known whether Ferrous glycine sulphate can pass through the breast milk or not. Breastfeeding mothers should avoid nursing while taking Ferrous glycine sulphate.
Drug Machinery Interaction
Drug More Information Hematinic may aggravate regional enteritis, peptic ulcer and ulcerative colitis.
How to take the Medicine
Consumption Info Ferrous glycine sulphate metabolism is impaired by tannins such as tea, phytic acid, Saw palmetto and roughage-adding foods.
Drug quanitty For iron deficiency anemia (Adults): Take one capsule of ferrous glycine sulphate or 10 ml once or twice as directed by a physician. For iron deficiency anemia (Pediatrics): Consider administration of 5-10 ml of Ferrous glycine sulphate, as directed by a pediatrician.
