  5. Hello, Dr. I live in Bangalore, and my fingers have minor fractures around the nails. I've been experiencing dry skin for the past two weeks. Every time I touch or press anything, I get pain. Please let me know if there is any ointment I should use. I've also had cracks in my legs (toes) for a long time, and when I use XERINA cream and HALODERM ointment on a daily basis, it helps temporarily. However, the cracks on the palms and fingers have been present for the past two weeks. Please advise if I should use other ointments or if I can use the same ones that I use for my legs. Regards in advance.

Extremely dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, frequent hand washing, detergents, or fungal infections are common causes of painful fractures around the nails, fingers, palms, and toes. Haloderm Ointment should not be used consistently without a dermatologist's advise since long-term steroid use might harm the skin, while Xerina Cream might help soften thick, dry skin. Wear gloves while using soaps or detergents, avoid extremely hot water, and apply thick moisturiser or petroleum jelly several times a day, especially after washing your hands. It is best to see a dermatologist to determine whether the painful cracks are caused by psoriasis, eczema, or another skin problem and to receive the appropriate therapy because they are spreading to the fingers and palms.
