I have allergic rhinitis and have been on treatment for the past 6 months, and my symptoms are now well-controlled. My doctor has advised a Histoglob injection every 3 months. How long will I need to continue this treatment, and what happens if I stop taking the injections?
Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) is a long-term condition where the nose becomes overly sensitive to common triggers like dust, pollen, or pollution. This can lead to repeated sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, and irritation. Medicines such as antihistamines and Histoglob injections (Human Normal Immunoglobulin, Histamine, and Sodium Thiosulphate) are used to control these symptoms and slowly reduce the body?s overreaction to allergens. The duration of treatment with Histoglob injection varies from person to person. In many cases, doctors may continue it for around 1 to 3 years, depending on how well the symptoms are controlled and whether they tend to recur in certain seasons. Since your symptoms are currently well controlled, your doctor may gradually extend the gap between injections or stop them after reviewing your progress over time. If the injections are stopped, some people continue to feel well, while others may notice symptoms returning, especially during allergy seasons. This does not mean the condition has worsened, but rather that the underlying sensitivity is still present. Regular follow-up with your doctor is important to determine the right time to safely reduce or stop treatment.
