My elderly father is a diabetic and heart patient currently taking Humansulin 30/70, Galvus Met 50/500, Dianorm OD 60, Cardarone-X, Carca-CR-20, and Telecad-20. After a recent fall, he was prescribed an antibiotic and a steroid for pain. Today, his blood sugar is unmeasurably high on the glucometer, even after administering extra doses of Actrapid and Humansulin. Could the recently prescribed steroid be causing this extreme spike in his blood sugar, and what immediate medication adjustments or treatments should we provide to bring it down safely?

Steroids commonly cause significant increases in blood sugar, especially in people with diabetes, by making the body less responsive to insulin.
Please consult an endocrinologist or diabetologist urgently to adjust medications and manage the steroid effect safely given the complex heart condition. Close medical supervision is vital.
