I have a boil on my abdomen; what medicine or ointment should I use to treat it?
For a simple boil, start by applying a warm, damp compress to the area for 10 to 15 minutes, three to four times a day, to help it drain naturally. You can apply a generic over-the-counter antibiotic ointment, such as bacitracin or polymyxin B, and keep the area covered with a clean bandage. Please do not squeeze, pop, or puncture the boil yourself, as this can spread the infection deeper. If the boil becomes extremely painful, grows larger, or if you develop a fever, please see a doctor. They may need to prescribe oral antibiotics or safely drain it.
