About DTO Tablet

DTO Tablet is a combination of medicines called 'antibiotics' primarily used to treat various infections caused by bacteria & protozoans. DTO Tablet is used to treat a wide variety of infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive organisms, Gram-negative organisms, anaerobes, and protozoa. Examples of infection caused by protozoa include dysentery (inflammation of the colon) and malaria. 

DTO Tablet is a combination of two antibiotics: Ofloxacin and Tinidazole. Ofloxacin helps treat and prevent a wide range of bacterial infections. It is bactericidal in nature, which means it works by killing bacteria that cause infections. It inhibits the processes of bacterial cells, ultimately destroying the bacteria and thereby preventing the further spread of the infection. DTO Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic against most Gram-negative bacteria, many Gram-positive bacteria, and some anaerobic bacteria (that live without oxygen). On the other hand, Tinidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria responsible for causing infections. It works by damaging their genetic material, called DNA. 

DTO Tablet should be taken in the dose and duration your doctor advises. It is recommended to take it with food and at a fixed time to achieve maximum effect. You may experience nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, loss of appetite, headache, and other symptoms. Most of these side effects of DTO Tablet do not require medical attention and typically resolve on their own over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor. Please consult your doctor immediately if you experience any allergic reaction symptoms such as rashes, itching, swelling, or shortness of breath.

Inform your doctor if you have any lung disease, muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), a sleeping disorder or difficulty sleeping (sleep apnoea), severe liver disease, or a problem with alcohol or other prescription or recreational drugs. Inform your doctor if you plan to get pregnant, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Use of DTO Tablet is associated with an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon (tough tissue that connects muscle to bone) rupture in all ages. People taking DTO Tablet who are over 60 years are at high risk, especially those taking anti-allergic medicines like corticosteroid drugs. DTO Tablet is contraindicated in people with kidney/heart diseases and those who have had lung transplants; its use is not recommended.

DTO Tablet is used in the treatment of bacterial and protozoal infections. The detailed uses of DTO Tablet are as follows: <br/>• Treatment of Bacterial Infections: DTO Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory, urinary tract, sexually transmitted infections, and skin infections.<br/>• Management of Gastrointestinal Infections: DTO Tablet helps to treat gastrointestinal infections caused by bacteria, relieving symptoms and promoting recovery.<br/>• Urinary tract Infections (UTIs): DTO Tablet can be used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) caused by susceptible bacteria.<br/>• Preventing Infection: DTO Tablet can be prescribed to prevent infections in patients undergoing surgery or those with weakened immune systems.<br/>

Directions for Use

  • DTO Tablet can be taken with or without food (excluding dairy products).
  • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication.
  • Swallow DTO Tablet as a whole with a glass of water.
  • Do not crush, break, or chew it.

DTO Tablet contains the antibiotics Ofloxacin and Tinidazole, which help treat and prevent a wide range of bacterial infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, and some anaerobic bacteria (that live without oxygen). What if I have taken an overdose of DTO Tablet

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of DTO Tablet as it may cause an overdose. If you suspect you have taken an overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Drug Warnings

Do not take DTO Tablet if you are allergic or have had a severe reaction to Ofloxacin or other quinolone or fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as Delafloxacin, Gemifloxacin, Levofloxacin, Moxifloxacin, and Ciprofloxacin. Taking DTO Tablet may increase the chances of developing tendinitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or having a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle). Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant, kidney disease, a joint or tendon disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis (an autoimmune condition of joints causing pain, swelling, and loss of function), seizures (fits), epilepsy or if you participate in regular physical activity. Taking DTO Tablet may worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (a nervous system disorder that causes muscle weakness) and cause severe difficulty breathing or death. Dairy products should be avoided along with DTO Tablet . Additionally, exposure to sunlight should be avoided while taking DTO Tablet , as it may increase phototoxicity or photosensitivity. Patients with epilepsy and irregular heartbeat (QT prolongation) should tell their doctor before taking DTO Tablet .

  • Probiotics should be taken after taking the full course of DTO Tablet to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestines that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods, such as yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kimchi, can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.
  • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fibre-rich foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. Whole grains, such as whole-grain bread and brown rice, should be included in your diet. Make sure you drink plenty of water or other fluids daily while taking DTO Tablet .
  • Avoid alcoholic consumption with DTO Tablet as it can make you dehydrated and may affect your sleep. This can make it harder for your body to aid the DTO Tablet in fighting off infections.
