About Merid Tablet

Merid Tablet belongs to a class of medicines called anti-diabetic drugs used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, especially in patients whose blood sugar levels are not controlled by diet and exercise alone.

Merid Tablet contains Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. Metformin reduces the amount of sugar produced by the liver, slows down sugar absorption from food, and helps the body use insulin more effectively.

In some cases, Merid Tablet may cause side effects like stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, headache or metallic taste. Most of these side effects of Merid Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Do not take Merid Tablet if you are allergic to any of its components. Merid Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy, breastfeeding and in children. Avoid alcohol consumption with Merid Tablet as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (accumulation of lactic acid in the body).

Uses of Merid Tablet

Merid Tablet is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The detailed uses of Merid Tablet are as follows:
• Management of Type 2 Diabetes: Merid Tablet helps lower blood sugar levels in individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
• Improvement of Insulin Sensitivity: Merid Tablet enhances the action of insulin, making the body's tissues more responsive to it.
• Reduction of Cardiovascular Risks: Regular use of Merid Tablet can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in diabetic patients.
• Control of Blood Sugar Levels Post Meals: Merid Tablet assists in lowering postprandial blood sugar spikes, which is beneficial for overall diabetes management.
Directions for Use

 • Merid Tablet can be taken with meals or as prescribed by the doctor.
 • Follow your doctor's instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication to ensure safety.
 • Swallow Merid Tablet as a whole with a glass of water.
 • Do not chew, crush or break it.

Medicinal Benefits

 • Merid Tablet is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
 • It helps manage blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes and prevents diabetes-related complications like kidney damage, eye problems, and nerve issues.
 • Merid Tablet contains Glimepiride and Metformin, which work together to offer a dual-action approach for effectively managing type 2 diabetes.
 • Glimepiride stimulates cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, which helps remove sugar from the blood.
 • Metformin reduces sugar production by cells in the liver and delays sugar absorption from the intestines. Additionally, it enhances the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin, allowing these cells to remove sugar more effectively from the bloodstream.

How Merid Tablet Works

Merid Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic drugs, namely: Glimepiride and Metformin. Glimepiride works by stimulating beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. Thus, insulin helps to remove sugar from the blood. Metformin works by reducing the sugar production by cells in the liver and delays sugar absorption from the intestines. Also, it increases the sensitivity of muscle cells to insulin, which enables these cells to remove sugar more effectively from the blood.

Storage

FAQs

Merid Tablet is indicated in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Merid Tablet works by decreasing the amount of glucose absorbed from the food and the amount of glucose made by the liver. It helps the pancreas to produce insulin and helps the body use insulin efficiently.

Merid Tablet may increase the risk of low blood sugar levels, especially with alcohol intake, exercise more than usual, delay or miss snacks or meals. However, if you experience any signs of low blood pressure, such as dizziness, nausea, light-headedness, dehydration or fainting, please consult a doctor.

In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin as the islet cells (insulin-producing cells) in the pancreas are destroyed completely. In type 2 diabetes, though islet cells are working, the body doesn't respond to insulin as the body becomes resistant to it.

You are not recommended to stop taking Merid Tablet on your own as discontinuing Merid Tablet suddenly may cause recurring symptoms or worsen the condition. However, if you experience any difficulty while taking Merid Tablet , please consult your doctor so that alternative medicine may be prescribed.

You are not recommended to take Merid Tablet with phenytoin as it may reduce the effect of Merid Tablet and increase blood sugar levels. However, please consult a doctor before using Merid Tablet with other medicines.

Include a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat, oats, barley, and quinoa. Non-fat or low-fat dairy and proteins like chicken, lean meats, nuts, beans, tofu, lentils, eggs, fish, and turkey can also be included.

Cut back on foods high in sodium, alcohol, fried foods, and high-carb food and drinks like sugary drinks, drinks with added sugar, white rice and starchy vegetables.

You are advised to take Merid Tablet for the duration recommended by the doctor.

Store Merid Tablet at room temperature, in a dry place. Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Merid Tablet may cause lactic acidosis (builds up of lactic acid in the blood). Consult the doctor if you notice symptoms of lactic acidosis like abdominal pain, vomiting, muscle cramps, difficulty breathing, reduced body temperature and heartbeat, and severe tiredness.

Merid Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus, also known as noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

Side effects of Merid Tablet are stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, headache or metallic taste. Most of these side effects may not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Long-term use of Merid Tablet may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. Regular monitoring of vitamin B12 levels is recommended.

You are recommended to avoid consumption of alcohol with Merid Tablet as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis (accumulation of lactic acid in the body).

Merid Tablet should be swallowed as a whole with water; do not crush, break or chew it.

Regularly monitor blood glucose levels. Have your meals regularly and never miss a meal. Always carry a source of sugar and consume it if you experience low blood sugar. If you are due to undergo any tests or surgery, inform the doctor that you are taking Merid Tablet . Avoid drinking alcohol.

Other medicines should be taken with Merid Tablet only if prescribed by the doctor. To prevent any interactions it is advised to consult the doctor before taking other medicines during treatment with Merid Tablet .
