About TOBRA D DROPS

TOBRA D DROPS is a combination of one antibiotic and one corticosteroid used to treat bacterial eye and ear infections. It is used to treat eye infections such as conjunctivitis (infection of the outer white membrane of the eyeball), corneal ulcers (ulcer that occurs in the transplant membrane of the eye called the cornea), acute bacterial otitis media (an infection of the middle ear), and otitis externa (an infection in the ear canal). Eye infections are contagious and can pass from one to another. Signs and symptoms include pink or red-toned eyes, itching in areas of eyes, teary eyes, thick discharge around eyes/ears, ear discomfort, etc. 

TOBRA D DROPS is a combination medicine that contains Tobramycin and Dexamethasone. Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic which inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with protein synthesis and leads to cell death. Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid medicine that reduces swelling and redness by preventing infection-fighting white blood cells (WBCs). 

TOBRA D DROPS is an external preparation and should be administered as advised by your doctor. TOBRA D DROPS may cause certain common side effects, including (when used as eye drops) redness, itching, swelling, burning sensation, tearing, and temporary blurred vision (when used as ear drops), including ear pain and discomfort, discharge from ears, etc. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually subside over a time span. However, if the side effects persist for an extended period of time, consult your doctor. 

TOBRA D DROPS should be avoided if you are allergic to it, other aminoglycoside antibiotics or any other ingredients present in it. Inform your doctor if you are on any topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as TOBRA D DROPS combined with topical NSAIDs may cause your eye wound to heal more slowly. Avoid wearing contact lenses during the treatment of ocular infection or inflammation, as it can worsen the condition. Tell your doctor about all your current medications and medical history before using TOBRA D DROPS. Inform your doctor if you have any vision or hearing problems after using this medication. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. TOBRA D DROPS is not recommended for use in children below 2 years of age.

TOBRA D DROPS is used in the treatment of bacterial eye and ear infections. The detailed uses of TOBRA D DROPS are as follows:<br/>• Eye Infections: TOBRA D DROPS effectively treats bacterial eye infections with its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, rapidly relieving symptoms like redness and itching.<br/>• Ear Infections: TOBRA D DROPS treats bacterial infections of the ear, such as otitis externa, by eliminating bacteria and reducing inflammation, offering quick relief from pain and discharge.<br/>

Directions for Use

• Follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the dosage and duration.• For eye use: Wash your hands, tilt your head back, pull down your lower eyelid, and instil the prescribed number of drops into the eye.• For ear use: Lie on your side or tilt your head so the ear faces up and instil the prescribed number of drops into the ear.• Do not touch the tip of the dropper to avoid contamination.

What if I have taken an overdose of TOBRA D DROPS

An overdose of TOBRA D DROPS may not be harmful. However, the risk of overdose cannot be excluded. Seek emergency medical attention or call your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms, or anyone has accidentally swallowed the medication or if you suspect that you may have overdosed of TOBRA D DROPS.

Drug Warnings

  • It is for external use only. If you are allergic to TOBRA D DROPS or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Consult your doctor before using TOBRA D DROPS if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. 
  • TOBRA D DROPS is not recommended for children below 2 years of age. 
  • You are advised to remove soft contact lenses before using TOBRA D DROPS as it contains a preservative that may cause eye irritation and discolouration of soft contact lenses. You can reinsert contact lenses after 15 minutes of using TOBRA D DROPS. 
  • Do not use the topical non-steroidal inflammatory drug while using TOBRA D DROPS. TOBRA D DROPS contains dexamethasone; if you use a topical non-steroidal inflammatory drug and dexamethasone together, it may delay the healing of your eye wound. 
  • If you have diabetes, please consult your doctor before using TOBRA D DROPS. The risk of intraocular pressure (glaucoma) and cataract formation is increased in diabetic patients. 
  • TOBRA D DROPS may cause temporary vision problems (blurred vision), so be cautious while driving and operating machinery. 

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Sleep for at least 6-8 hours to rejuvenate your eyes naturally.
  • Wash your eyes with clean water at least 2-3 times a day
  • Manage stress, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly, and get plenty of sleep.
  • Placing cooled tea bags on your eyes while they are closed can be a way to relax and unwind.
  • Avoid pricking your ears with cotton buds or fingers as it can scratch the skin and allows germs which result in infection.
  • The ear infection can also occur due to improper cleaning of ears after bathing or swimming. Hence, cleaning your ears thoroughly with a clean and dry cloth is advised.

TOBRA D DROPS contains tobramycin and dexamethasone. Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It acts by inhibiting bacteria&amp;#039;s growth. It binds to the proteins in the bacteria, disrupting the cell functions and eventually leading to bacterial death. Most of these side effects of TOBRA D DROPS do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist, please consult your doctor.

TOBRA D DROPS does not cause blindness. However, it contains dexamethasone (a corticosteroid), when used for a long time may lead to vision loss or blindness in rare cases. If you notice any changes in your vision while using TOBRA D DROPS, contact your doctor immediately for advice.

You are advised to remove contact lenses before using TOBRA D DROPS, as it contains a preservative that may increase the risk of eye irritation and cause discolouration of the lenses. It is best to remove your lenses before applying TOBRA D DROPS and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Always consult your doctor for personalized advice.
