Information for patients
Drug Information DEXAMETHASONE belongs to a group of medicines known as corticosteroids.It is used to treat in?ammation of the eye surface and the front portion inside the eye (anterior segment) and to prevent or treat in?ammation following surgery to the eye. It helps to relieve the symptoms of in?ammation such as redness, soreness and swelling.

Alert •If you think that you have any type of infection, including viral and fungal infections and tuberculosis of the eye. •If you are allergic to dexamethasone . If any of these apply, ask your doctor for advice

Drug Special Care •Only use DEXAMETHASONE in your eye(s). DEXAMETHASONE should be used with caution in children under 2 years of age. •Use of DEXAMETHASONE for long periods of time, may cause increased pressure in your eye(s) and / or the development of cataracts. DEXAMETHASONE should not be used for more than one week, unless advised by your doctor. •If you already have high pressure in your eye(s) or an eye disease such as glaucoma, you should have your eye pressure checked regularly whilst using DEXAMETHASONE. •Use of steroids may make eye infection worse and delay healing of an eye wound. If you have an infection, your doctor will prescribe another medicine to treat it. •If you have a disorder causing a thinning of the eye tissues. Steroids may cause further thinning and possible perforation. If any of these apply, you may still be able to use DEXAMETHASONE, but discuss it with your doctor ?rst.
Drug Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. If you are using more than one type of eye medicine, the medicines must be used at least 5 minutes apart. Eye ointment should be used last.
Drug Pregnancy Interaction If you are pregnant or might get pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding a baby, talk to your doctor before you use DEXAMETHASONE. DEXAMETHASONE should not be used during pregnancy or breast-feeding

Drug quanitty The usual dose is 1 drop in the affected eye(s) every 4 hours. However, in severe in?ammations the dose may be increased to 1 to 2 drops every 30 to 60 minutes until a satisfactory response is obtained, when the dose may gradually be reduced. Use DEXAMETHASONE with caution in children below 2 years of age.If your symptoms get worse or suddenly return, please consult your doctor. You may be more likely to develop eye infections while using DEXAMETHASONE. Remove the loose collar from the cap when the bottle is ?rst opened. Always use DEXAMETHASONE exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Drug Dose •Wash your hands before you start. •Shake the bottle well. •Twist off the bottle cap. •Hold the bottle pointing down, between your thumb and fingers. •Tilt your head back. •Pull down your lower eyelid with a finger, until there is a 'pocket' between the eyelid and your eye. The drop will go in here •Bring the bottle tip close to the eye. Do this in front of a mirror if it helps. •Do not touch your eye or eyelid, surrounding areas or other surfaces with the dropper. It could infect the drops. •Gently press on the base of the bottle to release one drop at a time . •Do not squeeze the bottle, only a gentle press on the bottom is needed. •If you use drops in both eyes, repeat the steps for your other eye. Put the bottle cap firmly back on immediately after use.
Excess Drug Consumption •If you use more DEXAMETHASONE than you should it can be washed out of your eye with warm water
Forgot Drug Consumption •If a drop misses your eye, try again. •If you forget to take DEXAMETHASONE, do not worry, just take it as soon as possible. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up.
Stop Drug Consumption Do not stop the drug untill your doctor says you to do so.

Avoid Drug •If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to moxifloxacin, to other quinolones, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Drug Special Care •If you experience an allergic reaction to MOXIFLOXACIN. Allergic reactions occur uncommonly and serious reactions occur Rarely • If you wear contact lenses – stop wearing your lenses if you have any signs or symptoms of an eye infection. Wear your glasses instead. Do not start wearing your lenses again until the signs and symptoms of the infection have cleared and until you have stopped using the medicine. As with any antibiotic, use of MOXIFLOXACIN for a long time may lead to other infections.

How to take the Medicine
Consumption Info If you are using other eye drops, leave at least 5 minutes between putting in MOXIFLOXACIN and the other drops.
Drug quanitty Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose is… Adults, including the elderly, and children: 1 drop in the affected eye or eyes, 3 times a day (in the morning, in the afternoon and at night). MOXIFLOXACIN can be used in children, in patients over 65 years of age and patients with kidney or liver problems. There is only very limited information on the use of this medicine in the newborn and its use is not recommended in the newborn. Only use MOXIFLOXACIN in both eyes if your doctor told you to. Only use MOXIFLOXACIN for dropping in your eyes. The infection normally improves within 5 days. If no improvement is seen, contact your doctor. You should continue to use the drops for a further 2-3 days or as long as your doctor told you to.
Drug Dose •Get the MOXIFLOXACIN bottle and a mirror •Wash your hands •Twist off the cap •Hold the bottle, pointing down, between your thumb and fingers •Tilt your head back. Pull down your eyelid with a clean finger, until there is a ‘pocket’ between the eyelid and your eye. The drop will go in here. •Bring the bottle tip close to the eye. Use the mirror if it helps •Do not touch your eye or eyelid, surrounding areas or other surfaces with the dropper. It could infect the drops •Gently press the bottom of the bottle to release one drop of medicine at a time •After using MOXIFLOXACIN, press a finger into the corner of your eye, by the nose for 2-3 minutes. This helps to stop the medicine getting into the rest of the body and is important in young children. •If you are using the drops in both eyes, wash your hands before you repeat the steps for your other eye. This will help prevent spreading the infection from one eye to the other. •Close the bottle cap firmly immediately after use If a drop misses your eye, try again.
Excess Drug Consumption If you use more medicine than you should, rinse it all out with warm water. Don’t put in any more drops until it’s time for your next regular dose.If you accidentally swallow MOXIFLOXACIN contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Forgot Drug Consumption If you forget to use the medicine, continue with the next dose as planned. Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
