Drug Information TOBRAMYCIN belongs to a group of medicines known as aminoglycoside antibiotics. It is used for the treatment of bacterial infections of the surface of the eye and eyelids, such as conjunctivitis and blepharitis.

Before Consuming the Medicine
Avoid Drug • If you are allergic to tobramycin, any other type of aminoglycoside antibiotic. • In CHILDREN under the age of 1 year. Ask your doctor for advice.
Drug Special Care • If you suffer from liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other antibiotic medicines by mouth or by injection. • As with any antibiotic, use of TOBRAMYCIN for a long time may lead to other infections. If your symptoms get worse or suddenly return tell your doctor.
Drug Drug Interactions Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription. If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5-10 minutes after putting in TOBRAMYCIN before using the other drops.
Drug Pregnancy Interaction If you are pregnant or might get pregnant, or if you are breast-feeding a baby, talk to your doctor before you use TOBRAMYCIN.

Drug Machinery Interaction You may find that your vision is blurred for a time just after you use TOBRAMYCIN. Do not drive or use any machines unless your vision is clear.
Drug More Information Wearing contact lenses is not advisable during the treatment of an eye infection, as they may make your condition worse. Do not use the drops while wearing contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after using the eye drops before putting your lenses back in. There is a preservative in TOBRAMYCIN (benzododecinium bromide) that can affect soft contact lenses.
How to take the Medicine
Consumption Info Remove the loose collar from the cap when the bottle is first opened. Always use TOBRAMYCIN exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Drug quanitty The usual dose in adults and children 1 year and older is 1 drop in your eye(s), twice a day–morning and evening for 7 days. In severe infections, this may by increased to 1 drop 4 times a day for the first day, followed by 1 drop twice a day for 6 days.
Drug Dose • Wash your hands before you start. • Twist off the bottle cap. • Hold the bottle pointing down, between your thumb and fingers. • Tilt your head back. • Pull down your lower eyelid with a finger, until there is a ‘pocket’ between the eyelid and your eye.The drop will go in here. • Bring the bottle tip close to the eye. Do this in front of a mirror if it helps. • Do not touch your eye or eyelid, surrounding areas or other surfaces with the dropper. It could infect the drops. • Gently press on the base of the bottle to release one drop at a time. • Don’t squeeze the bottle, only a gentle press on the bottom is needed. • If you use drops in both eyes, repeat the steps for your other eye. Put the bottle cap firmly back on immediately after use.
Excess Drug Consumption • If you use more TOBRAMYCIN than you should, it can be, rinsed out with warm water.
Forgot Drug Consumption • If you forget to use TOBRAMYCIN, do not worry, just use it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and and go back to your normal dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up.• If a drop misses your eye, try again.
Stop Drug Consumption Do not stop using TOBRAMYCIN before your doctor advises, even if your symptoms improve.
Possible Side Effects
General Information Effects in the eye: Irritation, surface inflammation, pain, abnormal sensation, blurred vision. General effects: Rash, abnormal skin sensation or skin redness.
Common Drug Side Effects Itching, swelling, redness, watery eye(s).
Rare Drug Side Effects : Discomfort, discharge, swelling of the surface of the eye and eyelid and redness of the eyelid.

How to Store the Medicine
How to Store the Medicine • Keep out of the reach and sight of children. • Keep the bottle tightly closed. • Do not use the drops after the expiry date (marked ‘Exp’) on the bottle and the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. • Stop using the bottle 4 weeks after first opening, to prevent infections. • Medicines should not be disposed of via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment. • Do not pass this medicine on to others. It may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as yours.

Drug Information •FLUOROMETHOLONE contains fluorometholone, a steroid that reduces irritation, burning, redness and swelling of eye inflammation. Uses FLUOROMETHOLONE is used to treat eye inflammation in certain parts of the eye.

Avoid Drug Tell your doctor: (a)If you have ever suffered from any other eye problem, particularly infection, that required treatment from a doctor or specialist. (b) If you are pregnant or breastfeeding. (c) If you are taking any other medication, whether it has been purchased from a chemist or pharmacist, or prescribed for you by a doctor. (d) If you are allergic to the preservative benzalkonium chloride or any of the other ingredients, as FLUOROMETHOLONE should not be used. (e) If you wear soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses. (The preservative benzalkonium chloride can permanently damage this type of lens.) (f) If you are suffering from viral, fungal or severe bacterial eye infection or tuberculosis of the eye. In these cases FLUOROMETHOLONE should not be used. Please also tell your doctor if you have a history of these conditions. The safety and effectiveness in children under 2 years of age have not been shown. The pressure within your eye should be checked frequently while taking FLUOROMETHOLONE.

How to take the Medicine

Drug quanitty One to two drops of FLUOROMETHOLONE are usually used two to four times daily. It should not normally be used for longer than one week without review by your doctor. During the first two days of treatment you may be asked to apply the drops every hour. Follow the instructions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anything that you do not understand. Do not use this medicine more or less often, or for a longer period, than you are told to by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not stop using FLUOROMETHOLONE until your doctor tells you to. FLUOROMETHOLONE is not recommended for use in children under 2 years of age.
Drug Dose FLUOROMETHOLONE comes as eye drops. Your prescription label tells you how many drops to use at each dose. Apply your eye drops in the following way: 1.Shake the bottle well before use. 2.Tilt your head back and look at the ceiling. 3.Gently pull the lower eyelid down until there is a small pocket. 4.Squeeze the upturned dropper bottle to release a drop into your eye. 5.Release the lower lid, and close your eye for 30 seconds. Avoid touching the dropper tip against your eye or anything else. Replace and tighten the cap straight after use. The proper application of your eye drops is very important. Forgot Drug Consumption If you forget to apply a dose apply it as soon as you remember and then apply any remaining doses for that day at evenly spaced intervals. If, however, it is almost time for your next dose, you should omit the missed dose altogether and then follow your normal routine.

Common Drug Side Effects As with all medicines, FLUOROMETHOLONE can cause unwanted effects in some users. You may experience mild stinging and/or burning when the drops are applied and temporary blurred vision. You may possibly experience thinning of the skin and the appearance of fine red lines on the face, formation of cataracts and poorer vision. You should see your doctor if these effects prove troublesome or if they are long-lasting. If you experience pressure or pain in the eye you should see your doctor at once. Possible causes of pain and pressure in the eye are i.e. eye infection or glaucoma (raised pressure within the eye). You should also see your doctor if you experience any other unusual or unexpected effects.

How to Store the Medicine Keep the bottle in a safe place out of the reach of children. Do not store above 25°C (room temperature). Do not freeze. Warnings Do not use the product if the tamper-proof seal on the bottle is broken. The product should not be used after the expiry date. (This is printed on both the label on the bottle and on the bottom of the carton that the bottle is packed in.) Throw the bottle away 28 days after opening, even if there is solution remaining.
