Treatment of Osteoporosis (postmenopausal Osteoporosis, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, Increased bone mass in men with osteoporosis), Paget's disease of bone.
Medicinal Benefits:
Gemfos Tablet contains 'Risedronate sodium', which comes in the category of drugs known as 'amino bisphosphonate”. In osteoporosis, It works by slowing down the cells that break down bone. This maintains bone density and makes your bones stronger and less likely to break. In Paget's disease of bone, Gemfos Tablet reduces the abnormal bone turnover that this condition causes. This helps to reduce deformity and pain and makes your bones stronger and less likely to break.
Gemfos Tablet is used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis, increased bone mass in men with osteoporosis and Paget's disease of bone.

A person who is allergic to any component present in Gemfos Tablet or have digestive problems, problems swallowing or any problems with your food pipe or low calcium levels in the blood have kidney problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or trying to get pregnant, have cancer, or are having chemotherapy or radiotherapy should not take Gemfos Tablet.
It has been seen that Gemfos Tablet increases the risk of jaw bone problems (osteonecrosis) especially in persons with pre-existing dental problems, or people treated with steroids, cancer, blood cell disorders, chemotherapy, or radiation.
It is advised not to breastfeed while taking Gemfos Tablet as this medicine can pass into breastmilk. Consult with your doctor about any risk.
A person should do the extra care of their dental hygiene while taking Gemfos Tablet and If they are going for any dental work (especially surgery), they should tell the dentist ahead of time that they are taking this medicine.
Persons whose age is more than 35 years have low estrogen levels, females reaching menopause, too much alcohol consumption, tobacco, or caffeine, and lack of calcium and vitamin D in the foods are some of the factors that can increase the risk of osteoporosis.
If a person notices serious problems in the stomach or oesophagus, they should stop taking Gemfos Tablet and report to the doctor.
Gemfos Tablet is a part of a complete program that includes modifications in diet, regular exercise, bone mineral density testing, and intake of calcium and vitamin supplements. Follow all the guidelines given by the doctor very closely.
Foods, medicines and vitamin supplements may affect the absorption of Gemfos Tablet. Therefore, to maintain the effectiveness of Gemfos Tablet, it should be taken with plain water only.
Gemfos Tablet may cause diarrhoea as a side effect. Drink enough fluids and eat non-spicy food if you experience diarrhoea. Consult the doctor if the diarrhoea persists or worsens.
Take Gemfos Tablet without food on an empty stomach with one glass of water at least half an hour before breakfast, and remain in a sitting or standing position for about 30 min. Do not crush, chew, or break it.
Lying down after taking Gemfos Tablet may cause the medication to return to the oesophagus. Therefore, do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after you take Gemfos Tablet. Sit or stand upright for at least 30 minutes after taking Gemfos Tablet.
Gemfos Tablet may cause hair loss in some people. Consult the doctor if you notice hair loss or thinning of hair during treatment with Gemfos Tablet.
Gemfos Tablet should be used during pregnancy only if prescribed by the doctor. Please consult the doctor if you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy or think you may be pregnant.
Keep your teeth clean and have a dental check-up every 6 months as Gemfos Tablet may affect your jawbone. Do not lie down, eat or drink anything except water while taking Gemfos Tablet and for 30 minutes after taking it.
Gemfos Tablet may cause side effects like abdominal or stomach pain, ulceration of the gullet, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and difficulty or pain upon swallowing. Most of these side effects of Gemfos Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, consult the doctor.
