Medicinal Benefits:
Meftal MR Tablet is a combination drug that contains 'mefenamic acid' and 'Tizanidine.' Mefenamic acid belongs to a group of medicines called NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug), used to relieve mild to moderate pain associated with period pain, symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and management of excessively heavy periods. Meftal MR Tablet works by blocking the effect of a chemical messenger in your body, known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzymes that make another chemical, 'prostaglandins' (PG). These prostaglandins are produced at injury sites and cause pain and swelling. By blocking the COX enzymes' effect, lesser PGs are produced, which reduces mild to moderate pain and inflammation at the injured or damaged site. Tizanidine works in the centres of the spinal cord and brain. This helps relax the intestine or stomach muscles and stops muscle contractions. Collectively, both of them help to relieve pain, bloating, cramps, and discomfort caused.

You are not recommended to take Meftal MR Tablet with ciprofloxacin as Meftal MR Tablet contains Tizanidine. Co-administrating these two medicines may cause adverse effects such as slurred speech, dizziness, weakness, confusion, low blood pressure, and drowsiness. However, please consult a doctor before taking Meftal MR Tablet with other medicines.
Avoid taking Meftal MR Tablet if you have stomach ulcers as Meftal MR Tablet contains Mefenamine, which might increase the risk of stomach ulcers, perforation of the stomach and intestinal bleeding with higher doses.
Do not take Meftal MR Tablet if you are planning for pregnancy as Meftal MR Tablet might make it more difficult to get pregnant.
Diarrhoea might be a side-effect of Meftal MR Tablet . Drink plenty of fluids and eat food rich in fibre. Consult your doctor if you experience excessive diarrhoea or if you find blood in stools.
