CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML belongs to a class of drugs called anti-histamine or anti-allergic. It contains cetirizine, primarily used to treat various kinds of allergies. An allergy is an immune system response to foreign elements typically not harmful to your body. These foreign elements are known as ‘allergens.’ Allergic condition varies from person to person. Some might be allergic to certain foods and seasonal allergies like hay fever. At the same time, others might be allergic to pollen or pet dander.

CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML contains cetirizine (anti-histamine), which is used to treat allergies as it blocks the effects of a chemical messenger known as ‘histamine,’ which is naturally involved in allergic reactions.  Additionally, CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML also treat hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), round the year dust or pet allergies (perennial allergic rhinitis), and urticaria (swelling, redness, and itchiness of the skin). In short, it helps to relieve the discomfort and unpleasant symptoms that occurred due to allergic conditions, like blocked/runny/itchy nose, red/watery eyes, and skin rashes.

Always take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML exactly as your doctor has prescribed you. Check with your doctor if you are not sure. Do not chew, break, or split the tablet; swallow it as a whole with a glass of water. Like all medicines, CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML can cause some side effects; however, not everybody gets them. If you observe tiredness symptoms, feeling sleepy, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, sore throat, nausea, cold-like nose symptoms (in children), or diarrhoea (in children). In very rare cases, people might have thought about committing suicide. If you feel like this, stop the medicine and immediately contact your doctor.

You should not take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML if you are allergic to cetirizine, currently breast-feeding, or have severe kidney failure (creatinine clearance less than 10 ml/min), the problem of urinary retention and fructose intolerance. Do not give this medicine to children who are less than two years of age groups. Check with your doctor if you are taking midodrine to treat low blood pressure and ritonavir for HIV infection.

Directions for Use

Take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML with or without food, once a day, preferably in the evening or night as it may cause slight drowsiness. Take it twice a day only if your doctor has prescribed it to you.

Side Effects of CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML

Most of the side effects of CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor. Sleepiness, drowsiness, nasopharyngitis (sore throat), fatigue, and dry mouth in children of 12 years of age and adult has been reported. While fever, sleepiness, drowsiness, cough, and epistaxis (nose bleeding) can occur in children 6 to 12 years of age.

Drug Warning

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML, consult your doctor. If you have kidney problems, dose adjustment might be required; the doctor will do it depending upon your disease's condition. Please inform your doctor if you have a problem passing urine and have epilepsy (fits) before starting CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML. If you are supposed to undergo skin testing, the doctor might advise you to stop taking CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML 72 hours before the test as it decreases response to skin prick test. Patients should be cautioned against getting engaged in the work which required too much mental alertness like operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle after intake of CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML. Concurrent use of CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML with alcohol or other antidepressants should be avoided as it can reduce your mental alertness. The daily dose in adults and children 12 years of age and older should not take more than 5 mg once daily. Besides this, in children 6-11 years of age, the recommended dose is 2.5 mg once daily. Patients should avoid taking over dosage of CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML because of the increased risk of sleepiness and drowsiness at higher doses.

  • Pregnancy

    CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML is pregnancy category B medicine so it can be used by the pregnant mother only if your doctor has prescribed it.

  • Breast Feeding

    Take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML only when prescribed; it is known to pass on in a limited quantity via breast milk to the child.

  • Driving

    Please drive with caution; CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML usually does not causes blurry vision, but it may affect driving ability in some.

  • Liver

    Only consume CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML, if your doctor has prescribed it.

  • Kidney

    CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML to be taken with caution, especially if you have a history of kidney disease. The dose may have to be adjusted by your doctor. Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) with less than 10 mL/min creatinine clearance or patients undergoing hemodialysis should not take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML.

CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML is an antihistamine providing instant relief from allergic conditions however, in some people it may cause sleepiness and induce some drowsiness in the day. Hence you are recommended to take it in the night time in case you are experiencing excessive drowsiness in the day.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML and skip the missed dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

You should not take CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML if you have had an allergic reaction to CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML, food additives containing E218 or E216, intolerant to lactose or sorbitol, have liver or kidney failure, epilepsy (fits), difficulty in peeing. Tell your doctor that you are taking CETRIZINE SYRUP 60ML and have booked an allergy test as it might affect the diagnostic result.
