I am a minor thalassemia patient, and I want to understand why I need to take folic acid. How does it help me, and what benefits will I get from it?

Being a minor thalassemia patient means your body makes slightly smaller or fewer red blood cells than usual. Because of this, your body has to work harder to keep producing new blood cells all the time. This constant turnover can lead to mild anaemia or tiredness in some people, even if the condition is generally stable. Folic acid plays an important role in helping your body make new red blood cells. It supports healthy cell formation and helps your bone marrow produce blood more efficiently. That is why doctors often recommend folic acid only if needed and under guidance, as it supports your body?s increased demand for red blood cell production. It does not cure thalassemia, but it helps maintain better haemoglobin levels and reduces symptoms like weakness or fatigue. With regular use as advised, folic acid can help improve your energy levels and overall well-being. You can also support this by eating foods rich in folate, like green leafy vegetables, lentils, and citrus fruits. Regular follow-up helps ensure your levels stay stable and you remain healthy over time.
I had two miscarriages earlier due to the baby?s heartbeat problem, and now I am 40 days pregnant. What care or treatment should I follow at this stage to avoid the same issue again?

After two previous miscarriages, it is natural to feel anxious in early pregnancy, but many women in this situation still have a normal and healthy outcome with proper care. At around 40 days, the pregnancy is still very early, and the baby?s heartbeat may not always be visible yet, so doctors often repeat the scan after a short interval to confirm normal development. Earlier losses linked to heartbeat are often due to genetic or hormonal reasons, and they do not always repeat in the next pregnancy. At this stage, your doctor will focus on close monitoring with timely scans and check-ups. They may suggest supportive treatment, such as hormonal support or supplements, only if required after reviewing your condition, so it is important not to take any medicine on your own. Regular follow-up helps ensure that any concerns are identified early and managed appropriately. You can support your pregnancy by maintaining a calm, stable routine. Get enough rest, avoid physical strain, eat fresh and balanced meals, and stay well hydrated. Try to reduce stress and maintain a positive environment. If you notice any bleeding, pain, or unusual symptoms, do not delay in contacting your doctor for early guidance.

Ferikind M Suspension is primarily used to treat iron deficiency anaemia. Iron supplements like Ferikind M suspension only help restore iron levels lost due to the bleeding and do not stop bleeding. Though heavy bleeding during periods and weakness could be a sign of iron deficiency, the root cause of the bleeding still needs to be checked. It would be best to talk to your doctor to identify the cause and whether an iron supplement like Ferikind M is right for you.
