Corticosteroids: Medicines used to treat inflammation (like prednisone) can raise your blood sugar, which may reduce the effectiveness of your treatment.
Contrast Dyes: Iodinated contrast media used during imaging scans may require temporary interruption of METLEAD SR 500MG TABLET in certain patients, particularly those with significantly reduced kidney function (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), acute kidney injury, or selected high-risk procedures. Your healthcare provider will assess your kidney function and advise whether METLEAD SR 500MG TABLET should be paused and when it can be restarted.

Drug-Food Interactions

Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption can significantly increase the risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but potentially life-threatening complication associated with METLEAD SR 500MG TABLET. Alcohol-related low blood sugar is uncommon with METLEAD SR 500MG TABLET alone but may occur when METLEAD SR 500MG TABLET is taken together with other diabetes medicines that can cause hypoglycaemia, such as insulin or sulfonylureas.

Drug-Disease Interactions:

Inform your doctor if you have a history of the following conditions before taking METLEAD SR 500MG TABLET, as it may worsen your condition or cause complications.

Severe Kidney Disease: This medicine is filtered through your kidneys. If you have severe kidney impairment, the drug can build up in your body, which can be highly dangerous.
Severe Liver Damage: A compromised liver cannot clear lactic acid efficiently, which raises the risk of acid build-up when taking this medicine.
Dehydration or Severe Infection: Conditions that cause severe fluid loss or low oxygen levels (like heart failure or severe lung disease) can make taking this medicine unsafe due to the risk of lactic acidosis.
