Medicinal Benefits:
Fericip XT Suspension is primarily used to treat anaemia (deficiency of red blood cells and haemoglobin). The body's demand for iron and folic acid increases during pregnancy. Therefore, Fericip XT Suspension acts as a pregnancy supplement. It also helps the body produce and maintain new cells, preventing the DNA from mutating, which can lead to cancer. Fericip XT Suspension contains Elemental Iron and Folic acid (haematinics combination), which boost the body's production of red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin. Thus, using Fericip XT Suspension is associated with a reduced risk of iron deficiency and anaemia, especially in pregnant women.
Fericip XT Suspension belongs to a class of medications called 'haematinics,' primarily used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin).
Fericip XT Suspension is a combination of two drugs, namely: Elemental Iron and Folic acid. Elemental iron helps with the transportation of oxygen throughout the body and the production of red blood cells. Folic acid works by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBCs) in the body. Together, Fericip XT Suspension helps treat anaemia.
Folic acid requirements are usually met from the diet, but additional supplements are required in cases of deficiency. Fericip XT Suspension is advised to pregnant women who want to conceive as folate utilization is increased in pregnancy. It is generally given at least 4 weeks before pregnancy and is continued up to 3 months of pregnancy.
It is recommended not to take Fericip XT Suspension with tea, coffee, milk, or eggs, as the body may absorb less iron from supplements if they are taken together, which may reduce the effectiveness of Fericip XT Suspension .
Fericip XT Suspension is best absorbed if taken on an empty stomach. However, in some patients, it can cause an upset stomach if taken on an empty stomach. So, please follow your doctor's suggestion if you have an upset stomach.
If you are pregnant, it is necessary to maintain the right levels of folic acid to reduce the risk of neural tube defects as the baby's central nervous system develops. So, to avoid any defect, it is necessary to take it for the first three months as the neural tube is formed completely by this time.
Foods rich in folic acid and iron include leafy green vegetables like spinach, beans, nuts, peas, seafood, and citrus fruits like oranges.
Fericip XT Suspension may cause side effects such as nausea, constipation, stomach upset, pyrosis (burning sensation in the chest), and black or tarry stools. Most of these side effects of Fericip XT Suspension do not require medical attention and typically resolve on their own over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Medicines used to treat indigestion, such as antacids, those used to treat bone problems, like bisphosphonates, and those used to treat bacterial infections, like Chloramphenicol, should be taken with a minimum gap of two hours. If you are taking medicines like Sulfasalazine (used to treat ulcers), Phenytoin (used to treat epilepsy), and Methotrexate (used to treat cancer), consult your doctor.
In case of folic acid deficiency, it is possible to get anaemia, ulcers in the mouth, diarrhoea and flatulence. In severe cases, it can result in infertility.
