Medicinal Benefits:
Orofer XT Syrup is a combination of two drugs, namely: Ferrous ascorbate (iron supplement) and folic acid (a form of vitamin B9). Orofer XT Syrup works by increasing red blood cells (RBC) and haemoglobin (a protein) production in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. Also, folic acid is necessary in pregnancy as it plays a role in the development of the brain and spinal cord in the unborn baby.
Orofer XT Syrup belongs to a class of medications called haematinics, primarily used to treat anaemia (lack of blood) that occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food, or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy).
It is not recommended to take Orofer XT Syrup with coffee, tea, or dairy products at the same time, as these may reduce the absorption of Orofer XT Syrup . However, you may drink coffee or tea 2 hours before or after taking Orofer XT Syrup .
You are not recommended to take Orofer XT Syrup with phenytoin as co-administration of these two medicines may reduce the concentration of Orofer XT Syrup in blood and increase the risk of seizures (fits). However, please consult a doctor before taking Orofer XT Syrup with phenytoin.
Orofer XT Syrup is not recommended for hemochromatosis (excessive iron in the body) patients as it may increase the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, it is advised to inform your doctor if you have any iron overload conditions before taking Orofer XT Syrup .
Orofer XT Syrup provides essential iron and folic acid needed during pregnancy to prevent anaemia and support the baby’s healthy development, including reducing the risk of neural tube defects. If you are pregnant or planning pregnancy, it is essential to consult your doctor before using Orofer XT Syrup to ensure the correct dose and safe use.
