Alfumet Syrup belongs to a class of medicines known as antibiotics used to treat various infections caused by bacteria, dysentery and diarrhoea. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria enter, multiply and infect our bodies. It can target any body part and multiply very quickly. Amoebic dysentery can be caused by Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia or Clostridium difficile. Diarrhoea is an increase in bowel movement leading to increased and loose motions.

Alfumet Syrup contains furazolidone and metronidazole. Flurazolidone works by interfering with protein synthesis, a mechanism which is important for the survival of bacteria. Metronidazole kills parasites and anaerobic bacteria that are responsible for causing infections. It works by damaging their DNA. Collectively, they help in treating the disease effectively.

Some people may experience nausea, dryness in the mouth, headache, metallic taste, and dark yellow to brown discolouration of urine. Discontinue the Alfumet Syrup if any signs of low blood count are observed. Immediately inform your doctor if you experience swelling of the face, tongue, throat, itchy rash, or breathing difficulties while taking this Alfumet Syrup. Alfumet Syrup is safely given to children above one month of age. It is advisable that you do not drive while using Alfumet Syrup as Alfumet Syrup may cause blurred vision or dizziness that may affect the ability to drive or use machines.
