Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml

Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml belongs to a group of medicines called antacids used to treat acidity, heartburn, indigestion, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), and stomach upset. The stomach is usually protected from the acid by a mucous layer. In some cases, due to excess acid production, the mucous layer gets eroded, which leads to complications like acidity and heartburn. 

Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml is a combination of four drugs: Aluminium hydroxide, Magnesium hydroxide, Oxetacaine and Simethicone. Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide belong to a group of antacids, whereas oxetacaine belongs to local anaesthetics. Aluminium hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide works by neutralising excess stomach acid. Oxetacaine exerts a numbing effect, thereby provides relief from pain due to ulcers or acidic injury in the stomach. Simethicone is anti-flatulent which works by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles, thereby facilitates the expulsion of gas through flatus or belching (burping).

Take Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. You may experience certain common side-effects such as constipation, diarrhoea, dizziness, and drowsiness in some cases. Most of these side-effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side-effects persistently.

Do not take Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed by the doctor. Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml should not be given to children as safety have not been established. Avoid consuming alcohol along with Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml as it could lead to increased acidity. Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml may cause dizziness and drowsiness, do not drive or operate machinery unless you are alert. Inform your doctor regarding other prescription, non-prescription and herbal medicines you are taking to prevent any side-effects/interactions.

Do not take Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml if you are allergic to any of its contents, debilitated (very weak); if you have severe stomach pain, partially or fully blocked bowel. Inform your doctor before taking Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml if you have low phosphate levels, high magnesium levels, kidney or liver problems, history of appendicitis, rectal bleeding, a low-phosphate diet or if you are taking antibiotics. Avoid taking foods and drinks containing citrates with Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml as it might lead to increased serum levels of aluminium which can be harmful. Do not take Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed by the doctor. Drug-Drug Interaction: Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml may have interaction with pain killers (aspirin), antibiotics (doxycycline, oxytetracycline, levofloxacin, azithromycin, ciprofloxacin), anti-asthma (albuterol, ipratropium), anti-diabetic (glipizide), and vitamins (ascorbic acid, ergocalciferol, cholecalciferol).

Drug-Food Interaction: Avoid taking citrates along with Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml as it might lead to increased serum levels of aluminium. Avoid alcohol intake as it leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increases acidity and heartburn.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml may interact with constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal obstruction disorder, and renal dysfunction.

• Eat smaller meals more often.
• Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption. Alcohol intake leads to increased production of stomach acid, thereby increases acidity and heartburn.
• Maintain a healthy weight by regular exercising.
• Avoid lying down after eating to prevent acid reflux.
• Avoid tight-fitting clothes as it might increase the pressure on the abdomen leading to acid reflux.
• Practise relaxation techniques and avoid stress by doing yoga or meditation.
• Avoid foods such as high-fat food, spicy food, chocolates, citrus fruits, pineapple, tomato, onion, garlic, tea and soda.
• Avoid sitting continuously as it may trigger acidity. Take a break of 5minutes break every hour by doing brisk walking or stretching.

Do not take any other medication within 1 to 2 hours of taking Ancool Oral Suspension 170 ml.

Symptoms include heartburn, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, and difficulty swallowing. Indigestion is the feeling of fullness. It occurs due to slow gastric emptying. Symptoms include stomach pain, bloating, heartburn, nausea and vomiting.
