About BICEF DT 500MG TABLET

BICEF DT 500MG TABLET belongs to the class of cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used to treat bacterial infections. It is used in the treatment of pharyngitis (sore throat), tonsillitis (swollen tonsils), bronchopneumonia (lung infection), urinary tract infections (infection of bladder or urethra), and skin and soft tissue infections.

Harmful & infectious bacteria can reproduce quickly in your body. These harmful bacteria produce chemicals known as toxins, which can damage tissue and make you sick. BICEF DT 500MG TABLET contains cefadroxil, which is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It kills the bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. It doesn’t treat cold, flu, or other viral infections.

BICEF DT 500MG TABLET is available for oral use in the form of tablet, capsule, or suspension. It should be used only when needed, and the course of therapy should be completed as prescribed by your doctor even when your symptoms improve. Abrupt stopping or irrational use (incorrect dose or self-medication) of antibiotics may cause ‘antibiotic resistance’, in which the bacterium doesn’t get killed by the antibiotic. Common side-effects of BICEF DT 500MG TABLET are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, glossitis (sore tongue), dyspepsia (indigestion), abdominal pain, skin rash, and itching. Some patients may experience ‘Clostridium difficile associated diarrhoea (CDAD)’, a condition in which healthy bacteria in the colon (intestine) are disrupted.

Do not take BICEF DT 500MG TABLET if you have a known allergy to cefadroxil, cephalosporin antibiotics, and penicillins. Cefadroxil present in BICEF DT 500MG TABLET is a beta-lactam antibiotic that has a similar structure to penicillin. People allergic to penicillin may develop cross-sensitivity (sensitivity of one drug causes sensitivity to another drug that has a similar chemical structure. Inform your doctor if you are using any prescription and non-prescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements, and herbal products. Tell your doctor if you are previously diagnosed with any stomach or intestinal problems, especially colitis (inflammation of the inner lining of the colon (large intestine)), or kidney disease. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

  • Probiotics should be taken after taking the full course of BICEF DT 500MG TABLET in order to restore some healthy bacteria in the intestines that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kimchi can help to restore the good bacteria of the intestine.
  • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by your gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fibre-rich foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. Whole grains like whole-grain bread, brown rice should be included in your diet.
  • Avoid intake of alcoholic beverages with BICEF DT 500MG TABLET as it can make you dehydrated and may affect your sleep.  This can make it harder for your body to aid the BICEF DT 500MG TABLET in fighting off infections.

Disease/Condition Glossary

A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria enter, multiply, and infect the body. It can target any organ of the body and multiply very quickly. Many give off chemicals called toxins, which can damage tissue and make you sick. Bacterial infections vary from minor illnesses (like sore throat and ear infections) to severe brain infections (like meningitis and encephalitis). When you get infected with bacteria, you can experience generalized symptoms, like fevers, chills, and fatigue.  Few harmful bacteria that commonly cause infections include Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and E. coli.  Anyone can get a bacterial infection, but people with a weak immune system or taking immunosuppressive medicines like steroids are more prone to infections.

BICEF DT 500MG TABLET is used in the treatment of pharyngitis (sore throat) and tonsillitis (swollen tonsils) caused by Streptococcus spp, bacterial pneumonia (lung infection), uncomplicated urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis (kidney infection) and cystitis (bladder infection), skin and soft tissue infections such as abscesses (formation of pus within the tissue), furunculosis (infection of hair follicles), impetigo (red sores on the face in children), erysipelas (infection of the upper layer of skin), lymphadenitis (swelling of lymph nodes (filled with white blood cells that fight infection).
