Crestor 5 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of high cholesterol and to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack. It contains Rosuvastatin, which slows down cholesterol production in the body and decreases the amount of cholesterol that may build up on the arteries walls and block blood flow to brain, heart and other body parts. Thus, it lowers cholesterol and fats levels and helps to prevent stroke, heart disease and heart attack. It may cause side effects such as myalgia (muscle pain), asthenia (lack of energy), nausea, headache, abdominal pain, muscle pain, weakness, and daytime drowsiness. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

About Crestor 5 mg Tablet

Crestor 5 mg Tablet belongs to the class of medicines known as statins, which reduces bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein-LDL) and glyceride level, thereby reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke in the future. High cholesterol, known as hyperlipidemia or dyslipidemia, occurs when there is an excess of the unhealthy balance of cholesterol in the blood. When there is a high cholesterol level in the blood, your arteries get narrowed and clogged, finally contributing to heart diseases like stroke and heart attack.

Crestor 5 mg Tablet works by blocking liver enzymes, causing the liver to make less cholesterol. Crestor 5 mg Tablet increases the uptake and breakdown by the liver of cholesterol already in the blood. Thus, Crestor 5 mg Tablet lowers the levels of lipids known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when lifestyle changes (like a low-fat diet) on their own have failed. Crestor 5 mg Tablet reduces the ‘bad’ cholesterol and increases the ‘good’ cholesterol by blocking our body’s production of ‘bad’ cholesterol. It also improves your body’s ability to remove it from your blood.

The possible side effects of Crestor 5 mg Tablet may include myalgia (muscle pain), asthenia (lack of energy), nausea, headache, abdominal pain, muscle pain, weakness, and daytime drowsiness. Most of these side effects of Crestor 5 mg Tablet do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor. It is important to have your lipid profile checked regularly.

This medicine is only one part of a treatment program that should include a healthy low-fat diet, regular exercise, smoking cessation, moderation of alcohol intake and weight reduction. You can normally eat while taking this medicine, but avoid high-fat foods. Before starting the dose of Crestor 5 mg Tablet , tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have diabetes, severe lung disease, or have musculoskeletal disorders (like myopathy and rhabdomyolysis). You should avoid taking Crestor 5 mg Tablet with immune system affecting medicine (cyclosporine) or anti-HIV medicines (lopinavir, ritonavir, or atazanavir) as it might have a serious effect.

Uses of Crestor 5 mg Tablet

Crestor 5 mg Tablet is used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), prevention of heart attack, and prevention of stroke. The detailed uses of Crestor 5 mg Tablet are as follows:

• Cardiovascular Risk Reduction: By lowering cholesterol levels, Crestor 5 mg Tablet significantly decreases the chances of heart attacks and strokes in individuals with cardiovascular conditions or risk factors.
• Familial Hypercholesterolemia Treatment: Crestor 5 mg Tablet is prescribed to manage lipid levels in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, a genetic disorder leading to very high cholesterol levels.
• Improving HDL Cholesterol: Crestor 5 mg Tablet also boosts HDL cholesterol ('good' cholesterol), promoting better heart health.
• Preventing Atherosclerosis: By maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, Crestor 5 mg Tablet helps prevent plaque build-up in arteries, supporting overall vascular health and circulation.

Medicinal Benefits

Crestor 5 mg Tablet lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease and coronary events like heart attack, stroke, and heart-related chest pain (angina). Crestor 5 mg Tablet is beneficial in patients who are at high risk of these events. It is also prescribed in children (aged eight years or more) suffering from familial hypercholesterolemia (a genetic disease resulting in high cholesterol) along with lipid-lowering pills and other dietary measures. Crestor 5 mg Tablet plays a vital role in slowing atherosclerosis progress (blocked artery walls of the heart due to fat/lipid deposition leading to heart attack and stroke) in adult patients.
