About Eltropag Tablet
Eltropag Tablet is used to treat low blood platelet count in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections. Eltropag Tablet is also used to treat severe aplastic anaemia (SAA) in adults. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura is an immune condition associated with low levels of platelets. Hepatitis C is an infection and inflammation of the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus. Severe aplastic anaemia is a condition in which the bone marrow doesn't make enough blood cells.
Eltropag Tablet contains 'Eltrombopag', which belongs to the class of 'thrombopoietin receptor agonists'. Thrombopoietin is a glycoprotein hormone, stimulates the formation of megakaryocytes (large bone marrow cells) and further regulates platelet production. Eltropag Tablet works by increasing these large bone marrow cells responsible for the production of platelets. Thus, Eltropag Tablet helps increase these bone marrow cells, thereby stimulating the number of platelets, which further lowers the risk of bleeding.
In some cases, Eltropag Tablet can cause common side effects like nausea, diarrhea, headache, muscle pain, tiredness, loss of appetite, fever, anaemia (lack of blood cells), cough and tingling numbness. If you notice any side effects that are not manageable, please consult your doctor.

Uses of Eltropag Tablet
Eltropag Tablet is used in the treatment of low platelet count (thrombocytopenia) in various blood-related disorders. The detailed uses of Eltropag Tablet are as follows:
- Treats Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP): Eltropag Tablet is used to treat chronic ITP in patients who have not responded adequately to treatments such as immunoglobulins, corticosteroids, and splenectomy (surgical removal of spleen).
- Manages Thrombocytopenia in Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) infection: Eltropag Tablet helps increase platelet counts in chronic HCV patients, making it safer for them to start and continue treatment with interferon.
- Treats Severe Aplastic Anaemia (SAA): Eltropag Tablet is used for patients with SAA who have not responded to immunosuppressive treatment, helping to stimulate bone marrow to produce more blood cells.

- If you are known to be allergic to Eltropag Tablet or other medicines, please inform your doctor in advance.
- Brief your medical history if you have blood clots, clotting disorders (Factor V Leiden), blood disorders like blood cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, cataracts, liver or kidney diseases before starting Eltropag Tablet.
- Take Eltropag Tablet at least two hours before or four hours after consuming antacids, mineral and vitamin supplements (iron, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, selenium and zinc), dairy products, calcium-enriched foods and fortified juices since they interfere with the absorption of Eltropag Tablet.
- Eltropag Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy since it may have harmful effects on the foetus.
- Consult your doctor before using Eltropag Tablet if you are a breastfeeding mother.
- Do not drive or operate machinery since Eltropag Tablet may cause side effects like dizziness and tiredness, affecting your ability to concentrate and drive.

Eltropag Tablet should be stored in a cool and dry place away from sunlight. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
Eltropag Tablet can cause or increase the risk of severe liver issues. Check with your doctor straight away if you or your child experience nausea or vomiting, dark urine, light-coloured stools, right upper stomach pain, unusual exhaustion, or yellow eyes or skin while taking this medication.
Please take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
