Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet

Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet is used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the food pipe (oesophagus); this causes acidity, pain and heartburn.

Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet contains Esomeprazole and Levosulpiride. Esomeprazole works by preventing the production of stomach acid. Levosulpiride works by increasing the stomach and intestinal movement and preventing the backflow of food and acid into the mouth.

In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence, nausea and vomiting. You are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet should not be given to children as safety has not been established.

• Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet is used to treat acid reflux, heartburn, and irritation of the food pipe (oesophagus).
• Acidity: Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet helps to reduce excessive stomach acid production and related discomfort.
• Heartburn: Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet treats the burning sensation in the chest due to acid reflux.
• Peptic ulcers: Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet helps in the healing of ulcers in the stomach and upper intestine by lowering acid production.
• Indigestion: Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet improves digestion by reducing acid and promoting normal stomach movement.

• Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet should be taken 1 hour before a meal, preferably in the morning.
• It is usually taken once daily or as prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet as a whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush, break, or open it.

• Esomeprazole (proton pump inhibitor) works by blocking the action of an enzyme called the gastric proton pump, which is responsible for the production of acid.

• Do not take Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of its contents, if you are taking nelfinavir (anti-HIV), if you have a gastrointestinal haemorrhage, mechanical obstruction or perforation, epilepsy, mania, porphyria, or cardiac impairment.
• Inform your doctor before taking Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet if you have severe liver or kidney problems; if you are due to have a Chromogranin A test; if you experience unexplained weight loss, stomach pain, indigestion, vomiting food or blood, or if you pass black stools.
• On long-term treatment, Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet may increase the risk of bone fractures.
• Do not take Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so drive only if you are alert.
• Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet should not be given to children as safety has not been established.
• Avoid consuming alcohol along with Espentral LS 40mg/75mg Tablet as it could lead to increased drowsiness and can elevate the production of stomach acid.
