About FIXSAL TABLET

FIXSAL TABLET belongs to the group of medications called antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections. Bacterial infections are caused by the multiplication of harmful bacteria inside or on the body. These harmful bacteria produce chemicals known as toxins, which can damage tissue and make you sick. Symptoms of bacterial infection vary depending on the organ affected by bacteria.

FIXSAL TABLET contains Cefixime and Sulbactam. Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering, which is required for bacterial survival. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor; the inclusion of sulbactam extends the cefixime spectrum of action to beta-lactamase-producing strains of bacteria.

You should take this medicine exactly as prescribed by the doctor. The common side-effects of FIXSAL TABLET are diarrhoea, stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. These side effects are usually mild and temporary. However, if these side effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor immediately.

Cefixime and Sulbactam are present in FIXSAL TABLET . Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor; the inclusion of Sulbactam extends the cefixime spectrum of action to beta-lactamase-producing strains of bacteria. Thus FIXSAL TABLET effectively treats a wide range of bacterial infections.

What if I have taken an overdose of FIXSAL TABLET

Please do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause an overdose. Signs and symptoms of an overdose of FIXSAL TABLET may include severe vomiting, seizures, and convulsions. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe any symptoms or think you have taken too much. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.

How does the drug interact with Fixsal Tablet:
Co-administration of Fixsal Tablet with Cholera vaccine may reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine.

How to manage the interaction:
Talk to your doctor before receiving the cholera vaccine if you are currently being treated with Fixsal Tablet or have been treated within the last 14 days. To ensure adequate vaccine response, you should not receive cholera vaccine until at least 14 days after you complete your antibiotic therapy. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.

Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.
  • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus fibre foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after taking a course of antibiotics. Whole grains, like whole-grain bread and brown rice, should be included in your diet.
  • Avoid taking too much calcium-enriched foods and drinks as it might affect the working of FIXSAL TABLET .
