Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm belongs to the class of medicines called ‘corticosteroids’ used to relieve symptoms of asthma and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Asthma is a chronic (long-term) respiratory condition in which airways narrow, swell and produce extra mucus, leading to difficulty in breathing. COPD is a group of lung diseases with emphysema (shortness of breath) and chronic bronchitis (inflammation of the lining of bronchial tubes).

Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm contains Mometasone, a potent corticosteroid. When the skin reacts to any allergens, such substances are released normally. Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm decreases inflammation and irritation in the airways and makes breathing easier. Thus, it provides relief from the symptoms of asthma and COPD. 

Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm should be used as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to use Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm for a period recommended by your doctor based on your condition. Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm may cause side effects, including upset stomach, sore throat, oral thrush, hoarse voice, headache, nausea, and tiredness/weakness. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm should be avoided if allergic to it.  If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before using Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm. Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm is not recommended for children below 12 years of age. Stop using Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any vision changes or if your skin becomes sensitive or irritated after using Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm. Do not use more than the prescribed dose of Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm. Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm is for inhalation use only. Hence do not use it for other purposes. Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm is not used to treat asthma attacks.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm may have interaction with medicines such as antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin), anti-epileptic medicines (carbamazepine), anti-tuberculosis drugs (rifampicin), antacids (cimetidine), anti-HIV drugs (ritonavir, cobicistat), bronchodilators (formoterol, albuterol)

Drug-Food Interactions: It is safe to limit alcohol and caffeine intake.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Inform your doctor if you have/had tuberculosis, infection, weak immune system, or kidney or liver problems.

• Eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly to strengthen your breathing muscles and boost your immune system.

• Avoid cabbage, beans, garlic, onions, shrimp, pickled food, dried fruits, fried foods, carbonated drinks, wine, and bottled lemon and lime juice, as it may worsen asthma symptoms.

• Know your triggers like allergens, such as pollen, dust, and food items that make your asthma severe.

• Do meditation, deep breathing, regular exercise, and try progressive muscle relaxation techniques to get relief from stress and reduce the risk of an asthma attack.

• Quit smoking as it may reduce the effectiveness of Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm and irritate the lungs worsening breathing problems.

• Learning breathing exercises will help you move more air in and out of your lungs.

• If you are due to undergo any surgery or need to be vaccinated, inform your doctor that you are using Nasonex Nasal Spray Suspension 18 gm.
