Ocupol DX Drops 5ml belongs to the class of combination medications called ‘antibiotics' and 'steroids' used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections and ear infections. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. Ocupol DX Drops 5ml does not work against infections caused by viruses and fungi.

Ocupol DX Drops 5ml is a combination of Chloramphenicol, Dexamethasone, and Polymyxin B. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic that acts by interfering with the formation of essential proteins required for bacterial growth. Dexamethasone is a steroid that reduces inflammation and symptoms associated with infection, such as redness and irritation. Polymyxin B is bactericidal that works by killing the bacterial cell by preventing bacterial cell walls' formation essential for survival. Together Ocupol DX Drops 5ml prevent the spread of eye and ear infections caused by a wide range of gram-negative bacteria causing eye/ear infections. 

You should use this medicine as prescribed by your doctor. When used in the eyes, the common side effects are eye discomfort, eye irritation, and a burning sensation in the eye. When used as ear drops, the side effects include mild irritation and temporary ear discomfort. Most of these side effects of Ocupol DX Drops 5ml do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects worsen or persist, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Ocupol DX Drops 5ml or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Ocupol DX Drops 5ml should be used with caution in children. You are advised to consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You are recommended not to use contact lenses during the course of Ocupol DX Drops 5ml as it may worsen the infection. You are advised to maintain a 10 minutes time gap between using Ocupol DX Drops 5ml and other eye drops. Please do not touch the container tip to the eye, eyelids, or surrounding areas as it may contaminate Ocupol DX Drops 5ml and cause eye infections. Before using Ocupol DX Drops 5ml, inform your doctor if you have fungal infections, viral infections such as herpes simplex or varicella, or parasitic infections such as amoebiasis. Do not use Ocupol DX Drops 5ml if you have tuberculosis, damaged cornea, ulceration, lesions with missing skin that cover the eye or ear, and increased pressure inside the eye.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Ocupol DX Drops 5ml may interact with an anti-cancer agent (methotrexate), immune suppressant (azathioprine), antiviral drug (ritonavir), and a medication used to treat HIV (cobicistat). 

Drug-Food Interactions: No interactions found. 

Drug-Disease Interactions: Ocupol DX Drops 5ml should not be used in patients with fungal infections, viral infections such as herpes simplex or varicella, or parasitic infections such as amoebiasis, tuberculosis, damaged cornea, ulceration, and glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eye).

• Sleep for at least six to eight hours to rejuvenate your eyes naturally.
• Wash your eyes with clean water at least two to three times a day
• Manage stress, eat healthily, drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.
• Keep your ear clean and dry.
• Avoid alcoholic beverages as they can make you dehydrated and affect your sleep. This effect can also affect your body’s ability to fight off infections.

• Do not wear contact lenses while using Ocupol DX Drops 5ml eye drops.
• Avoid getting water in your ears while bathing, showering, or swimming while treating an ear infection.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight while using Ocupol DX Drops 5ml as it may cause increased photosensitivity (sensitivity to light).

The term 'middle ear infection' also applies to otitis media.
