About Percin Tablet

Percin Tablet belongs to a class of drugs known as 'antibiotics' used in the treatment of bacterial infections. It helps treat infections of the urinary tract, tonsils, sinus, nose, throat, female genital organ, skin and soft tissues, and lungs (pneumonia). A bacterial infection is a condition in which bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. It can target any body part and multiple very quickly. Percin Tablet does not treat infections caused by virus-like flu or a common cold. 

Percin Tablet contains 'Prulifloxacin' used to treat bacterial infections. The bactericidal action of Percin Tablet results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase which is needed for the synthesis of bacterial DNA (genetic material). Prulifloxacin is efficacious against Gram-negative bacteria. It also has enhanced activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Take Percin Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Percin Tablet for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending upon your medical condition. You may experience vomiting, headache, dizziness, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, and abnormal liver function tests in some cases. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor. If you experience any allergic reaction symptoms such as rashes, itching, swelling, or shortness of breath immediately contact a doctor. 

Do not take Percin Tablet if you are allergic or have had a severe reaction to Percin Tablet. Taking Percin Tablet may increase the chances of developing tendinitis or have a tendon rupture. Taking Percin Tablet may worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness disorder) and cause severe difficulty breathing or death. Dairy products should be avoided along with Percin Tablet. And also, exposure to sunlight should be avoided while taking Percin Tablet as it may cause increased phototoxicity or photosensitivity.  Do not take Percin Tablet on your own as self-medication may lead to antibiotic-resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. And also, if prescribed by your doctor Percin Tablet is safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• Percin Tablet can be taken with or without food or as directed by your doctor.• Avoid intake of Percin Tablet with dairy products, such as milk, cheese, or curd, as they may decrease its absorption and efficacy.• It is usually taken once daily or as prescribed by your doctor.• Swallow Percin Tablet as a whole with a glass of water.• Do not crush, chew, or break it.

Percin Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections, including infections of the urinary tract, tonsils, sinus, nose, throat, sexually transmitted infections, soft tissue infection and lungs (pneumonia). Percin Tablet contains Prulifloxacin, the prodrug of ulifloxacin, is a broad-spectrum activity with bactericidal action (kills bacteria) that works by preventing synthesis of enzymes, namely DNA gyrase and Topoisomerase IV, which is essential for growth and survival of the bacterial cell. Percin Tablet has a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against aerobic gram-positive and aerobic gram-negative bacteria (that live in oxygen). Percin Tablet does not treat infections caused by virus-like flu or a common cold.

How Percin Tablet Works

Percin Tablet contains 'Prulifloxacin' used to treat bacterial infections. The bactericidal action of Percin Tablet results from interference with the enzyme DNA gyrase which is needed for the synthesis of bacterial DNA (genetic material). Prulifloxacin is efficacious against Gram-negative bacteria. It also has enhanced activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including MRSA and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Side effects of Percin Tablet
  • Drink water or other clear fluids.
  • To prevent worsening of pain, limit intake of tea, coffee, or alcohol.
  • Include bland foods like rice, toast, crackers, and rice in your diet.
  • Avoid lying down immediately after eating as it may cause indigestion or heartburn.
  • Avoid acidic and spicy food as it may cause indigestion.
  • Practice breathing exercises to improve lung efficiency along with the medical treatment advised by your healthcare professional.
  • Avoid smoking or inhaling any products that cause damage to lungs.
  • Drink hot herbal tea and hot foods that make you feel comfortable. Avoid refrigerated foods to get relief from wheezing.
  • Use air purifiers or humidifiers to improve the air quality and stay away from allergy triggers that worsen your health condition.
  • Relieve inflammation with cool compresses, oatmeal baths, and fragrance-free moisturizers.
  • Wear loose, breathable clothing and keep nails trimmed to minimise irritation.
  • Use over-the-counter treatments like calamine lotion for relief.
  • Identify and avoid triggers like new soaps, detergents, or foods.
  • Seek medical help if the rash is severe, spreading, persistent, or accompanied by fever, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
Here are the precise steps to cope with diarrhoea caused by medication usage:
  • Inform Your Doctor: Notify your doctor immediately about your diarrhoea symptoms. This allows them to adjust your medication or provide guidance on managing side effects.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of fluids to replace lost water and electrolytes. Choose water, clear broth, and electrolyte-rich drinks. Avoid carbonated or caffeinated beverages to effectively rehydrate your body.
  • Follow a Bland Diet: Eat easy-to-digest foods to help firm up your stool and settle your stomach. Try incorporating bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, plain crackers, and boiled vegetables into your diet.
  • Avoid Trigger Foods: Steer clear of foods that can worsen diarrhoea, such as spicy, fatty, or greasy foods, high-fibre foods, and dairy products (especially if you're lactose intolerant).
  • Practice Good Hygiene: Maintain good hygiene to prevent the spread of infection. To stay healthy, wash your hands frequently, clean and disinfect surfaces regularly, and avoid exchanging personal belongings with others.
  • Take Anti-Diarrheal Medications: If your doctor advises, anti-diarrheal medications such as loperamide might help manage diarrhoea symptoms. Always follow your doctor's directions.
  • Keep track of your diarrhoea symptoms. If they don't get better or worse or are accompanied by severe stomach pain, blood, or dehydration signs (like extreme thirst or dark urine), seek medical help.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • Limit salty foods to reduce sodium intake and minimize water retention.
  • Eat anti-inflammatory foods like berries, leafy greens, tomatoes, nuts, and fish.
  • Incorporate potassium-rich foods like bananas, avocados, sweet potatoes, and spinach.
  • Limit alcohol to minimize dehydration and fluid retention.
  • Get 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night.
  • Elevate your head while sleeping to reduce fluid accumulation and alleviate swollen eyelids.
  • Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling and soothe irritated skin.
  • Manage allergies by minimizing exposure to allergens and using antihistamines or allergy eye drops.
  • Practice gentle eye massage to stimulate circulation and reduce fluid retention.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes to prevent irritation and worsening inflammation.
  • Reduce stress through relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
  • Consult a doctor if swollen eyelids persist, worsen, or are accompanied by pain.

What if I have taken an overdose of Percin Tablet

Avoid exceeding the recommended dose as it might cause an overdose. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any unusual symptoms.

Drug Warnings

Percin Tablet should be avoided if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant and breastfeeding unless your doctor prescribed it. Taking Percin Tablet may increase the chances of developing tendinitis (swelling of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle) or have a tendon rupture (tearing of a fibrous tissue that connects a bone to a muscle). Inform your doctor if you have or have ever had a kidney or liver disease, heart or lung transplant, seizures (fits), epilepsy or if you participate in regular physical activity. Taking Percin Tablet may worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis (a nervous system disorder that causes muscle weakness) and cause severe difficulty breathing or death. Patients with epilepsy and irregular heartbeat (especially a condition known as QT prolongation) should tell their doctor before taking Percin Tablet. Dairy products should be avoided along with Percin Tablet. And also, exposure to sunlight should be avoided while taking Percin Tablet as it may cause increased phototoxicity or photosensitivity.

Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Certain fermented foods like yogurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kombucha, and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria. 
  • Include more fiber-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by your gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fiber-rich foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. Whole grains like whole-grain bread and brown rice should be included in your diet. Make sure you drink plenty of water or other fluids every day while you are taking Percin Tablet.
  • Avoid alcohol, soda, coffee, tea, and artificial sweeteners as they may cause bladder irritation. 
  • Drink plenty of water to flush out the bacteria.
  • Avoid spicy foods and citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, grapefruits) as they may irritate the bladder.
