About Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet is used to reduce and relieve pain and inflammation (swelling) associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet may also be indicated in the treatment of pain associated with post-traumatic and post-operative cases.

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet is a combination of Aceclofenac and Rabeprazole. Aceclofenac works by blocking the action of the cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzyme, which produces other chemical prostaglandins. Aceclofenac has been reported to cause gastric discomfort and acidity. Hence, it is combined with Rabeprazole, which reduces the amount of acid the stomach makes, thus preventing damage to the stomach.

In some cases, you may experience indigestion, stomach pain, constipation, dizziness, nausea and diarrhoea. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Before taking the Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet, let your doctor know about all your allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to medicines or food. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from kidney, liver, or heart disease. Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or in children.

How Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet Works

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet combines two drugs: Aceclofenac (painkiller) and Rabeprazole (antacid). Aceclofenac works by blocking the effect of a chemical messenger known as cyclo-oxygenase (COX) enzyme that makes other chemical prostaglandins. By blocking the effect of COX enzymes, fewer prostaglandins are produced. This helps reduce mild to moderate pain and inflammation at the injured or damaged site. Aceclofenac has been reported to cause gastric discomfort and acidity. Hence, it is combined with Rabeprazole, a medicine belonging to a group of proton pump inhibitors that reduce the amount of acid the stomach makes, thus preventing damage to the stomach. Thus, the combination helps alleviate pain with minimal gastric irritation caused by Aceclofenac alone.

What if I have taken an overdose of Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet as it may cause serious adverse effects. If you suspect you have taken overdose, please consult a doctor immediately.

Drug Warnings

  • Do not take Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet if you are allergic to Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet, have severe heart failure, have suffered bleeding problems (such as bleeding from the stomach or bowels while taking any pain killers) or liver or kidney problems, or have suffered bleeding problems and clotting problems.
  • Inform your doctor before taking Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet if you have or had disorders of the stomach, blood circulation problems to the brain, asthma, porphyria, diabetes, high blood pressure, systemic lupus erythematosus, colitis, or Crohn’s disease; if you are recovering from major surgery or if you are elderly.
  • Do not take Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet if you are pregnant or breastfeeding unless prescribed.
  • Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet contains aceclofenac, which should not be used during the last three months of pregnancy.
  • Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet may be excreted in breast milk. Therefore, avoid breastfeeding and consult a doctor.
  • Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet should not be given to children, as safety has not been established.
  • Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet can cause drowsiness and dizziness, so drive only if you are alert.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol with Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet, as it could lead to increased drowsiness and increase the risk of stomach bleeding.
  • Do not take other NSAIDs for pain relief or Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet unless prescribed.
  • Prolonged intake of PPIs or proton pump inhibitors like Rabeprazole may cause brittle bones, so intake of vitamin D and calcium can be additionally given by your doctor while using Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet.

  • Physical activity helps strengthen muscles and relieve joint stiffness. Gentle activities like 20-30minutes of walking or swimming would be helpful.
  • Performing yoga may also help improve joint flexibility and manage pain.
  • Maintain a healthy weight by engaging in regular low-impact exercises and eating healthy foods.
  • Get adequate sleep, as rest for the muscles can help reduce inflammation and swelling.
  • Follow heat or cold therapy, apply a cold or hot compress on the joints for 15-20minutes regularly.
  • Acupuncture, massage and physical therapy may also be helpful.
  • Foods containing flavonoids, such as soy, berries, broccoli, grapes and green tea, help in reducing inflammation.
  • Include high-fibre foods, such as berries, cherries, leafy green veggies, and black pepper, in your meals. These foods are rich in antioxidants, calcium, and vitamin B12, which can help mitigate the long-term effects of the medicine. Fermented dairy products like miso, sauerkraut, and kimchi contain probiotics that help prevent excess stomach acid production.
  • Avoid intake of acid or heartburn-triggering foods or drinks like onions, peppermint, chocolate, caffeinated beverages, citrus fruits or juices, tomatoes, and high-fat and spicy foods.

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet contains Aceclofenac and Rabeprazole. Aceclofenac is a pain killer called NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) which works by blocking the effect of chemical messengers (prostaglandin), thereby helping in reducing pain, and inflammation. Rabeprazole works by blocking the action of an enzyme called a proton pump, which is responsible for the production of stomach acid. Thus, the combination used for pain relief, decrease stiffness in joints and reduces the release of excess stomach acid caused by aceclofenac.

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet is not recommended for asthma patients as it may worsen the condition. Therefore, please inform your doctor if you have asthma or a history of asthma due to the use of aspirin or any other non-steroidal drugs.

You are not recommended to take Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet with warfarin as co-administration of these two medicines may increase the risk of bleeding more easily. However, if you notice blood in urine or stools, dizziness, unusual bleeding or bruising, vomiting, weakness or headache, please consult a doctor immediately. If you are supposed to use these medicines together, you are advised to contact your doctor so that the dose may be adjusted appropriately to use safely.

Aceclofenac in Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet may increase the risk of heart problems such as heart attack, especially when used in high doses or for prolonged duration and in patients who are smokers, have high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol. It is advised to inform your doctor if you have any of these conditions or have a history of heart problems or stroke before taking Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet. However, taking Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet in the dose and for the duration, as prescribed by your doctor, is recommended.

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet may impair fertility in females and make it more difficult to conceive. Therefore, if you are pregnant, planning for pregnancy or have difficulties conceiving, please consult your doctor before taking Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet.

Do not take Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet for longer durations as it might increase the risk of heart problems, stomach bleeding and might increase the risk of fractures of the hip, spine, and wrist. Do not exceed the dose and duration of treatment as prescribed by the doctor.

Preace-ASR 200mg/200mg Tablet is a combination medicine containing Aceclofenac (painkiller) and Rabeprazole (antacid). It is used to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
