About RISOFOS 150MG TABLET

RISOFOS 150MG TABLET belongs to the class of medicines called bisphosphonates used to treat or prevent osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones) caused by menopause or taking steroids for a long time. Also, RISOFOS 150MG TABLET is used to treat Paget’s disease of bone. Osteoporosis is a bone disease that weakens and thins bones by decreasing bone density, common in post-menopausal women.  As the density of bones decreases, they weaken and are more likely to break.

RISOFOS 150MG TABLET contains Risedronic acid that works by binding to the bone tightly and preventing the removal of calcium by osteoclasts (a type of bone cell that destroys bone tissue). This prevents osteoclasts from breaking down the bone and keeps the bones strong and minimizes the risk of bones breaking.

Take RISOFOS 150MG TABLET as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take RISOFOS 150MG TABLET for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience headache, nausea, indigestion, stomach pain, cramps or discomfort, constipation, diarrhea, pain in the muscles, joints, or bones, feeling of fullness or bloating. Most of these side effects of RISOFOS 150MG TABLET do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to RISOFOS 150MG TABLET, any sugars, or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Avoid taking RISOFOS 150MG TABLET if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and consult a doctor. RISOFOS 150MG TABLET is not recommended for children below 18 years as the safety and effectiveness were not established. Avoid taking RISOFOS 150MG TABLET if you have hypocalcemia (low calcium levels in the blood) and severe kidney problems. Avoid drinking alcohol as heavy drinking may also cause bone loss. Avoid smoking as it may decrease bone mineral density and increase the risk of fractures. RISOFOS 150MG TABLET may cause osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) in some patients. Therefore, if you experience any problems with teeth or mouth such as loose teeth, swelling or pain, non-healing of sores, or discharge, consult your doctor and dentist as these might be signs of osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Treatment of Osteoporosis, Paget's disease of the bone.

Directions for Use

Take RISOFOS 150MG TABLET on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before food or 2 hours after food as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole with a glass of water while in an upright position to prevent heartburn. Do not break, crush or chew it. Do not lie down for half an hour after taking RISOFOS 150MG TABLET. Avoid taking RISOFOS 150MG TABLET with milk as it contains calcium and reduces the effect of RISOFOS 150MG TABLET.

Medicinal Benefits

Risedronate (risedronate sodium) helps your bones stay as strong as possible. RISOFOS 150MG TABLET is used to treat osteoporosis and Paget’s disease. In osteoporosis, risedronate slows down the cells that break down bone. This maintains bone density and makes your bones stronger and less likely to break. In Paget's disease of bone, risedronate reduces the abnormal bone turnover that this condition causes. This helps to reduce deformity and pain and makes your bones stronger and less likely to break.

How RISOFOS 150MG TABLET Works

RISOFOS 150MG TABLET contains Risedronic acid that works by binding to the bone tightly and preventing the removal of calcium by osteoclasts (a type of bone cell that destroys bone tissue). This prevents osteoclasts from breaking down the bone and keeps the bones strong and minimizes the risk of bones breaking.

Managing back pain as a side effect of medication requires a combination of self-care techniques, lifestyle modifications, and medical interventions. Here are the steps:
  • Talk to your doctor about your back pain and potential medication substitutes or dose changes.
  • Try yoga or Pilates and other mild stretching exercises to increase flexibility and strengthen your back muscles.
  • To lessen the tension on your back, sit and stand upright and maintain proper posture.
  • To alleviate discomfort and minimize inflammation, apply heat or cold packs to the afflicted area.
  • Under your doctor's supervision, think about taking over-the-counter painkillers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
  • Make ergonomic adjustments to your workspace and daily activities to reduce strain on your back.
  • To handle tension that could make back pain worse, try stress-reduction methods like deep breathing or meditation.
  • Use pillows and a supportive mattress to keep your spine in the right posture as you sleep.
  • Back discomfort can worsen by bending, twisting, and heavy lifting.
  • Speak with a physical therapist to create a customized training regimen to increase back strength and flexibility.
Here are the steps to manage Joint Pain caused by medication usage:
  • Please inform your doctor about joint pain symptoms, as they may adjust your medication regimen or prescribe additional medications to manage symptoms.
  • Your doctor may prescribe common pain relievers if necessary to treat joint discomfort.
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key to relieving joint discomfort. Regular exercise, such as low-impact sports like walking, cycling, or swimming, should be combined with a well-balanced diet. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night to assist your body in repairing and rebuilding tissue.
  • Applying heat or cold packs to the affected joint can help reduce pain and inflammation.
  • Please track when joint pain occurs and any factors that may trigger it, and share this information with your doctor to help manage symptoms.
  • If your joint pain is severe or prolonged, consult a doctor to rule out any underlying disorders that may require treatment.
  • Drink water or other clear fluids.
  • To prevent worsening of pain, limit intake of tea, coffee, or alcohol.
  • Include bland foods like rice, toast, crackers, and rice in your diet.
  • Avoid lying down immediately after eating as it may cause indigestion or heartburn.
  • Avoid acidic and spicy food as it may cause indigestion.
Here are the step-by-step strategies to manage the side effects of "indigestion" caused by medication usage:
  • Take medications with food (if recommended): It can help prevent stomach distress and indigestion.
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals: Divide daily food intake into smaller, more frequent meals to ease digestion.
  • Avoid trigger foods: Identify and avoid foods that trigger indigestion, such as spicy, fatty, or acidic foods.
  • Stay upright after eating: Sit or stand upright for at least 1-2 hours after eating to prevent stomach acid from flowing into the oesophagus.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks: Avoid drinking carbonated beverages, such as soda or beer, which can worsen indigestion.
  • Manage stress: To alleviate indigestion, engage in stress-reducing activities like deep breathing exercises or meditation.
  • Consult a doctor if needed: If indigestion worsens or persists, consult a healthcare professional to adjust the medication regimen or explore alternative treatments.
Here are the steps to manage angioedema (Swelling Under The Skin) as a side effect of medication:
  • If you experience angioedema, inform your doctor immediately. Treatment can help keep the swelling under control.
  • Seek medical attention if symptoms are severe, such as difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • Follow your doctor's instructions to manage symptoms, which may include stopping or adjusting the medication that triggered angioedema.
  • Your doctor may also recommend antihistamines, steroids, or other treatments to reduce swelling and inflammation.
  • Make dietary and lifestyle changes as recommended, such as avoiding trigger foods or reducing stress.
  • Monitor your condition closely and track your symptoms to report them to your doctor.
  • Consult your doctor again if symptoms worsen or do not improve or if you experience any new or concerning symptoms.
  • See a doctor or dermatologist to identify and stop the medicine responsible for causing the problem.
  • Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics, steroid creams, or immune system-targeting medications to heal your skin, manage symptoms, and prevent new blisters.
  • Follow your doctor’s advice on how to care for blisters.
  • Limit activities if necessary, as blisters on your hands or feet may affect your mobility.
  • Try not to scratch the affected area and avoid exposure to excessive heat and sun.
