Sulfa BN Powder belongs to a combination of medicines called antibiotics primarily used in the treatment of various bacterial infections of the skin associated with wounds, cuts, ulcers, burns and umbilical cord dressing. Bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. Sulfa BN Powder does not work against infections caused by viruses and fungus.

Sulfa BN Powder is a combination of three antibiotics, namely:  Neomycin, Bacitracin and Sulphacetamide. Neomycin works by inhibiting the production of essential proteins that are necessary for bacteria to grow, multiply and increase in numbers, thereby preventing the growth of bacteria. Bacitracin works by inhibiting the formation of bacterial cell walls that are essential for their survival as they prevent the entry of unwanted substances into the cells and stop the leakage of cell contents. Sulphacetamide works by preventing the production of folic acid (a nutrient) by bacteria, which is essential for the multiplication of bacteria. Thereby, Sulfa BN Powder kills bacteria and clears the infection.

Sulfa BN Powder is for external use only. Apply a small amount of Sulfa BN Powder to the clean and dry affected area as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid contact of Sulfa BN Powder with nose, ears, mouth or eyes. In case Sulfa BN Powder comes in contact with these areas accidentally, rinse with water thoroughly. Your doctor will advise you how often you take Sulfa BN Powder based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience rash, dry skin, swelling, redness or itching at the site of application. Most of these side effects of Sulfa BN Powder do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to Sulfa BN Powder or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Do not cover the treated area with dressings or bandages unless advised by your doctor.  Do not use Sulfa BN Powder to treat serious burns, deep or puncture wounds or raw areas without consulting a doctor. If you are pregnant or a nursing mother, please inform your doctor before taking Sulfa BN Powder. Do not apply Sulfa BN Powder in large amounts or use for a longer time than prescribed as it does not give quick or better results but increases the risk of side effects and makes skin more sensitive to Sulfa BN Powder. Do not swallow Sulfa BN Powder. In case of accidental swallowing, contact a nearby poison control centre or consult a doctor immediately. If you have lupus (an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own organs and tissues) or asthma, inform your doctor before taking Sulfa BN Powder.
