About Ureacos 500 Capsule

Ureacos 500 Capsule is an anticancer medicine used to treat head and neck cancer and sickle cell anaemia (blocking the flow of blood that causes pain and organ damage). Head and neck cancer is a disease including abnormal growth of the tissues of the neck and head that may also have the ability to attack or spread to other portions of the body.

In cancer, Ureacos 500 Capsule works by blocking an enzyme that is required for growing cells. In sickle cell disease, it works by increasing fetal haemoglobin (HbF) (haemoglobin of the unborn baby) levels in red blood cells (RBCs).

You may experience loss of appetite (feeling unwell and stomach upset), increased bleeding tendency, nausea, upset stomach, and vomiting. Most of these side effects of Ureacos 500 Capsule do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor.

Take Ureacos 500 Capsule as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take Ureacos 500 Capsule for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you, depending on your medical conditions. Do not chew, break, or crush the medicine. Swallow the medicine as a whole with a glass of water.

  • Treats Head and Neck Cancer:Ureacos 500 Capsule is used alone or in combination with radiotherapy to treat squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer) of the head and neck by preventing the cancer cells from growing and multiplying.
  • Treats Blood Cancer: Ureacos 500 Capsule helps slow the progression of chronic myeloid leukaemia by reducing the number of abnormal white blood cells in the bone marrow and blood.
  • Manages Ovarian Cancer: Ureacos 500 Capsule is used as part of a chemotherapy treatment to help control the growth and spread of ovarian cancer cells.
  • Manages Sickle Cell Anaemia: Ureacos 500 Capsule increases the level of fetal haemoglobin, which helps reduce the frequency of painful sickle cell attacks, the need for blood transfusion, and complications such as acute chest syndrome.

The symptoms of overdose include darkening of the skin, sores in the mouth and throat and pain, redness, swelling, and scaling on the hands and feet.
