It is used to control bleeding in conditions such as heavy periods (menorrhagia), nose bleeds (epistaxis), cervical surgery (conization of the cervix), prostate surgery (post-prostatectomy), bladder surgery (post-cystectomy), bleeding inside the eye (traumatic hyphaema) and a hereditary disease called angioneurotic edema (HANO). It contains Tranexamic acid, which regulates the breakdown of blood clots. It blocks the release and action of plasmin, an enzyme essential for the breakdown of clots present in the blood. This effect helps to slow down the bleeding. Some patients may experience side effects, such as nausea, diarrhoea, and itchy skin.

About Uvgate 250 mg Tablet

Uvgate 250 mg Tablet is a prescription medication used to treat heavy menstrual bleeding in women. It works by helping to stabilise blood clots in the uterus, thereby reducing excessive menstrual blood loss. This treatment is specifically intended to make your periods lighter and more manageable without altering your body's natural hormonal balance.

You should take Uvgate 250 mg Tablet only during your menstrual period, typically starting on your heaviest bleeding days for up to five consecutive days. Taking your doses at the same times each day ensures the medication maintains a consistent level in your system to control bleeding effectively. You can take the tablets with or without food. Combining this treatment with lifestyle changes, such as keeping a detailed menstrual calendar and staying hydrated, can help you and your doctor monitor its effectiveness.

Some people taking this medication may experience mild, common side effects such as headaches, sinus congestion, or back and joint pain. However, you must stop taking the medication and seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe symptoms, such as sudden changes in your vision, chest pain, or swelling in your legs.

Before starting Uvgate 250 mg Tablet , talk to your doctor if you have kidney disease, irregular bleeding between periods, or are using any hormonal birth control. Do not take this medicine if you have a history of blood clots, currently have active blood clots in your veins or arteries, or are allergic to any of its ingredients.

Using Uvgate 250 mg Tablet alongside oestrogen-containing contraceptives or smoking while taking this medication can significantly increase your risk of dangerous blood clots. You should also consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or are an older adult, as this treatment may not be suitable for everyone.

How Uvgate 250 mg Tablet Works

When you experience bleeding, your body's natural response is to form blood clots to seal the damaged blood vessels and stop the blood flow. Under normal conditions, your body also produces enzymes that eventually break down these clots once the blood vessels have healed. In cases of heavy menstrual bleeding, these clots are often broken down too quickly by an enzyme called plasmin, leading to prolonged and excessive blood loss. Uvgate 250 mg Tablet contains tranexamic acid, which belongs to a class of medications called antifibrinolytics. It works by temporarily blocking plasminogen from converting into plasmin. By preventing this breakdown, Uvgate 250 mg Tablet stabilises the natural blood clots in the uterus, keeping them intact longer to effectively control and reduce the volume of menstrual flow.
