About Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet

Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet belongs to the class of medication called semi-synthetic ergot alkaloids used to prevent and control postpartum haemorrhage. It is used after delivery for the routine management of uterine atony, subinvolution of the uterus, and haemorrhage.

Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet contains Methylergometrine which works by increasing the smooth muscle contractions of the uterus. This helps compress the blood vessels and controls bleeding after delivery.

Take Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet exactly as prescribed by the doctor. In some cases, Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet may cause high blood pressure associated with seizures and/or headache, nausea, and vomiting. If the side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor.

Do not take Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet if you are pregnant. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet is not recommended for children as safety and effectiveness have not been established. Keep your doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any interactions/side effects.

Treatment of Postpartum haemorrhage

Medicinal Benefits

Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet is indicated in the prevention and control of postpartum haemorrhage. It is used following delivery of the placenta for the routine management of uterine atony (soft and weak uterus after childbirth), subinvolution of the uterus, and haemorrhage. Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet contains Methylergometrine, a semi-synthetic ergot alkaloid which works by increasing the smooth muscle contractions of the uterus. This helps compress the blood vessels and controls bleeding after delivery.

Directions for Use

Swallow Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet as a whole with water; do not crush, break or chew it.

Storage

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight

Side Effects of Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure) associated with seizures and/or headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

Drug Warnings

Do not take Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet if you are allergic to any of its components, if you have high blood pressure, toxaemia (a complication of pregnancy characterised by high blood pressure), or if you are pregnant. Inform your doctor if you have coronary artery disease, sepsis, vascular disease, or liver or kidney impairment. Consult your doctor if you are breastfeeding. The safety and effectiveness of Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet in children have not been established. Let your doctor know if you are taking prescription/non-prescription medicines, including herbal products and supplements.

Drug Interactions

Drug-Drug Interactions: Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet may interact with ergot alkaloids (dihydroergotamine, ergotamine), macrolide antibiotics (erythromycin, troleandomycin, clarithromycin), HIV protease or reverse transcriptase inhibitors (ritonavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, delavirdine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole).

Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid consuming grapefruit juice whilst on treatment with Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet.

Drug-Disease Interactions: Wergomet 0.125mg Tablet is not recommended if you have high blood pressure/hypertension, toxaemia (a complication of pregnancy characterised by high blood pressure), or if you are pregnant.
