Lupin’s AerobiKA Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure (OPEP) Device is a device that helps clear secretions (mucus) from your airways, making it easier to breathe. People with certain pulmonary conditions produce a large amount of mucus that makes breathing difficult and further causes an airway infection. AerobiKA OPEP Device is beneficial for patients who face difficulty breathing with blockage of the airways. This airway clearance device mobilizes the excess secretions from the respiratory tract, expels the mucus and thus improves breathing. It works by providing vibrations that thin and loosen the mucus, thus expelling the phlegm.

Directions for Use

  • Read the instructions manual before using the device.
  • Disinfect the device before starting the use.
  • Insert the mouthpiece into the mouth. Inhale deeply and hold your breath for 2-3 seconds.
  • Exhale for 3-4 times longer than the inspiratory breaths.
  • Continue for 10-20 breaths or as directed by your doctor. 
  • After at least 10 breaths, perform 2-3 huff coughs to clear your airways.
  • Your healthcare professional will guide you more regarding the proper usage and technique.
  • For maximum efficacy, try suppressing your cough until the end of the treatment.

How to Clean?

  • Wash all the parts of the device in a solution of tap water and liquid dish detergent, allowing the parts to soak for 15 minutes. 
  • Agitate gently several times and rinse with water.
  • Shake the parts to remove any excess water.
  • You can also use a dishwasher to clean by placing the parts in the top rack. However, do not wash overly dirty dishes.
  • If advised, you can disinfect and sterilize the parts by boiling or using an electronic steam sterilizer once a week.
  • Always clean your AerobiKA before disinfecting it.
  • You can soak the parts in 3% hydrogen peroxide or 1:1 vinegar and water solution for disinfecting. Rinse thoroughly with water after soaking for 30 minutes.
  • Re-assemble the device once the parts are dried completely.

Safety Information

Use AerobiKA only if the doctor prescribes it. AerobiKA OPEP Device is not recommended for patients who are unable to tolerate the increased work of breathing. It is also not advised for patients who have/had intracranial pressure (ICP) > 20 mm Hg, hemodynamic instability (blood pressure instability), recent facial, oral, or skull surgery or trauma, acute sinusitis, epistaxis (bleeding nose), oesophageal surgery, nausea, active hemoptysis (bleeding from lungs), untreated pneumothorax (untreated collapsed lung), or known or suspected tympanic membrane rupture or other middle ear pathology. Please seek medical advice in this regard. The device should not be shared with others. Store in a clean and dry place. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
