About ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN

ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN is a combination medicine used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and lower the risk of heart attack and stroke. Hypertension is a medical condition in which blood pressure is elevated persistently in the arteries. Heart attack refers to blocked blood flow to the heart due to blockage of arteries. A stroke occurs due to blocked blood flow to the brain.

ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN contains Aspirin (antiplatelet), Atenolol (beta-blocker), Atorvastatin (statin), and Losartan (Angiotensin receptor blocker). Aspirin decreases the formation of harmful blood clots by preventing platelets from sticking together. Atenolol acts by inhibiting beta receptors in the heart, causing the heart to beat more slowly and with less force. Thereby, it decreases the pressure at which blood is pumped out of the heart and throughout the body. Atorvastatin belongs to the class of statins or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors that work by inhibiting the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme in the body that is essential to make cholesterol. Thereby, it decreases the production of LDL (bad cholesterol) by the liver. Also, it reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack by lowering the excess cholesterol deposition in the major blood vessels of the brain and heart. Losartan works by blocking the angiotensin II receptors. Thus, it reduces the production of angiotensin II, which causes constriction and narrowing of blood vessels. This allows the blood vessels to relax and widen and lower blood pressure. Together, ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN helps to reduce cholesterol levels, lower high blood pressure and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Take ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN as prescribed. You are advised to take ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN for as long as your doctor has recommended it based on your medical condition. Sometimes, ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN may cause common side effects such as indigestion, increased tendency for bleeding, headache, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, tiredness, dizziness, or back pain. Most of these side effects of ASPIRIN+ATENOLOL+ATORVASTATIN+LOSARTAN do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Hypertension: It is a chronic condition in which blood pressure is too high. This condition can lead to hardened arteries (blood vessels), decreasing the blood and oxygen flow to the heart. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when the blood supply to the heart is blocked). High blood pressure also causes brain damage (stroke) and kidney failure. Normal blood pressure lies between 90/60 mm of Hg and 120/80 mm of Hg. If the blood pressure is 140/90 mmHg or greater, it is considered high blood pressure.

Heart attack: It refers to blocked blood flow to the heart due to the blockage of arteries. The blockage is most often a build-up of fat, cholesterol, and other substances, which form a plaque in the arteries that feed the heart (coronary arteries). The symptoms include discomfort in the chest or upper areas of the body, shortness of breath, or lightheadedness.

Stroke: It occurs due to blocked blood flow to the brain. Symptoms include arm weakness and speech difficulty. Heart attack or stroke may occur due to high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, smoking, family history, or lack of physical activity.
