AVIPTADIL is indicated for the treatment of patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and severe COVID-19 with ARDS. ARDS is a life-threatening lung injury that allows fluid to leak into the lungs. Due to this, breathing becomes difficult, and oxygen cannot get into the body.
AVIPTADIL contains Aviptadil, a synthetic form of human Vasoactive Intestinal Polypeptide (VIP), which helps reduce lung inflammation.
In some cases, AVIPTADIL may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, low blood pressure, facial flushing, and infusion-related reactions. Most of these side effects may not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, talk to the doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.
Let the doctor know if you are allergic to any of the components in AVIPTADIL. Consult the doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Keep the doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any unpleasant side effects/interactions.

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS):
Avoid/quit smoking as it can worsen lung problems.
Try avoiding secondhand smoke and other lung irritants such as harmful fumes.
Follow a low-carbohydrate, high-fat diet as it has anti-inflammatory and vasodilating effects.
Maintain adequate fluid balance by managing fluid intake.
COVID-19:
Always remember to wear a mask when you are around other people. Wearing a mask helps in preventing the spread of infection.
Maintain social distance and avoid gatherings.
Clean your hands regularly with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser.
Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly.
Consume protein-rich foods.
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS): ARDS is a life-threatening lung condition that occurs when fluid leaks into the air sacs of the lungs. Due to this, breathing becomes difficult, and oxygen cannot get into the body. ARDS results from lung injury such as sepsis, pneumonia, inhaling harmful substances, or trauma to the head, chest or other areas of the body. Patients with ARDS are short of breath, often to a distressing level.
COVID-19: Coronavirus disease, also known as SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2), is an infectious disease caused by the coronavirus.
