About CEFDITOREN

CEFDITOREN belongs to a class of drugs called 'antibiotics' used to treat several bacterial infections of the skin, throat, tonsils, pneumonia and bronchitis (infection in the airway tubes). Bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grow in the body and cause infection. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly. CEFDITOREN does not work against infections, flu or cold symptoms caused by the virus.

CEFDITOREN contains Cefditoren an antibiotic that works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall (a protective covering) necessary for their survival. Thereby damages the bacterial cell wall and kills the bacterial cell. Thus, it prevents the growth of bacterial infections.

Take CEFDITOREN as prescribed by your doctor. You are advised to take CEFDITOREN for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. You may experience indigestion, diarrhea, stomach pain and nausea. Most of these side effects of CEFDITOREN do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

Before starting CEFDITOREN, please inform your doctor if you have any allergies (against these antibiotics). Talk with your doctor if you have an allergy to milk. Before taking CEFDITOREN inform your doctor of the conditions like liver and kidney disease. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before taking CEFDITOREN. CEFDITOREN is not recommended for use in children less than 12 years.

    Diet & Lifestyle Advise

    • Probiotics should be taken after taking the full course of CEFDITOREN to restore some of the healthy bacteria in the intestines that may have been killed. Taking probiotics after antibiotic treatment can reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Certain fermented foods like yoghurt, cheese, sauerkraut, kombucha and kimchi can help restore the intestine's good bacteria.

    • Include more fibre-enriched food in your diet, as it can be easily digested by your gut bacteria, which helps stimulate their growth. Thus, fibre foods may help restore healthy gut bacteria after a course of antibiotics. Whole grains like whole-grain bread and brown rice should be included in your diet.

    • Avoid taking too much calcium, iron-enriched foods, and drinks as it might affect the working of CEFDITOREN.

    • Avoid intake of alcoholic beverages with CEFDITOREN as it can make you dehydrated and affect your sleep. This can make it harder for your body to aid the CEFDITOREN in fighting off infections.

    Special Advise

    • CEFDITOREN may cause live bacterial vaccines (such as typhoid vaccine) to not work as well. Do not have any immunizations/vaccinations while using this medication unless your doctor tells you to.

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

Bacterial infection: It is a condition in which harmful bacteria enter, multiply and infect the body. They can target any part of the body and multiply very quickly. When you get infected with these germs, you can experience generalized symptoms, like fevers, chills and fatigue. Few harmful bacteria that commonly cause infections include Streptococcus, Staphylococcus and E. coli. Anyone can get a bacterial infection, but people with a weak immune system or taking immunosuppressive medicines like steroids are more prone to infections.
