About QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE

QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE is indicated in treating high blood pressure (hypertension). It lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular events, primarily strokes and myocardial infarctions. High blood pressure is when the blood exerts increased pressure on the walls of blood vessels.

QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE contains Quinapril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Quinapril widens the blood vessels in the body and helps reduce their pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide helps the body get rid of extra fluid. Together, QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE helps treat high blood pressure.

In some cases, QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE may cause side effects such as diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, tiredness, and indigestion. Most of these side effects may not require medical attention and resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to the doctor if the side effects persist or worsen.

Do not take QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE if you are allergic to any of its components. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE may cause dizziness, so drive only if you are alert. Keep the doctor informed about your health condition and medications to avoid unpleasant side effects/interactions.

Medicinal Benefits

QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is a combination of two anti-hypertensive medicines, Quinapril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Quinapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor) which reduces the pressure in the vessels by widening the blood vessels in the body. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that helps the body to get rid of extra fluid. Together, QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE helps treat high blood pressure.

    Patients Concern

    Disease/Condition Glossary

High blood pressure (hypertension): It is a condition in which the blood exerts increased pressure on the walls of blood vessels, leading to hypertension. This condition can lead to hardened arteries (blood vessels), decreasing the blood and oxygen flow to the heart. Raised blood pressure can cause chest pain (angina) and heart attack (when the blood supply to the heart is blocked). Additionally, high blood pressure also causes brain damage (stroke) and kidney failure. Symptoms of high blood pressure include headache, dizziness, nose bleed, changes in vision, chest pain, weakness and dyspnoea (shortness of breath). However, most of the time, there are no signs or symptoms of hypertension.

    FAQs

    How does QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE work?

QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE widens the blood vessels and facilitates the removal of extra fluid from the body, helping treat high blood pressure.

What happens when the blood pressure is high?

High blood pressure increases the workload on the arteries and heart. If untreated, it could damage the blood vessels of the heart, brain, and kidney and might result in stroke, heart failure or kidney failure. Hypertension increases the risk of heart attacks. Therefore, anti-hypertensives such as QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE are used to lower the blood pressure to normal; this reduces the risk of developing these disorders.

Can I stop taking QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE on my own?

Please do not stop taking QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE without consulting your doctor, as it may raise your blood pressure. To treat your condition effectively, continue taking QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE for as long as your doctor has prescribed it. Do not hesitate to speak with your doctor if you experience difficulty taking QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE.

Does QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE increase the risk of skin cancer?

Treatment with hydrochlorothiazide, especially on long-term use with high doses, might increase the risk of skin and lip cancer (non-melanoma skin cancer). Therefore, protect your skin from sun exposure and UV rays while taking QUINAPRIL+HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE. Consult the doctor if you have had skin cancer or if you develop an unexpected skin lesion during the treatment.
