ROSUVASTATIN+CALCITRIOL belongs to the class of ‘cholesterol-lowering agents’ primarily used to lower abnormally elevated bad cholesterol or fat levels like low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides (TG) and increases good cholesterol levels (high-density lipoprotein or HDL) in the bloodstream. Hyperlipidaemia or dyslipidaemia occurs when there is an excess of the unhealthy balance of cholesterol in the blood. This condition can clog the blood vessels and leads to coronary heart diseases, like stroke and heart attack.
ROSUVASTATIN+CALCITRIOL is composed of two medicines, namely: Rosuvastatin and Calcitriol (Vitamin D3). Rosuvastatin belongs to drugs known as antilipemic agents (cholesterol-lowering)/statins or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking liver enzymes, causing the liver to make less cholesterol. Rosuvastatin lowers the bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein or LDL) levels and increases good cholesterol levels (high-density lipoprotein or HDL) in the blood. Calcitriol is a synthetic version of Vitamin D3 that helps relieve musculoskeletal problems, as the main side effect caused by Rosuvastatin.
