SATRANIDAZOLE belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics used to treat various infections caused by bacteria and parasites (amoeba). It is prescribed for the treatment of diarrhea. Additionally, it also treats vaginal and other bacterial infections. A bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria enter, multiply, and infect our bodies. It can target any body part and multiple very quickly. Amoebic dysentery can be caused due to Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, or Clostridium difficile.
SATRANIDAZOLE contains ‘Satranidazole’ that kills the harmful bacteria and parasites (amoeba) by damaging its DNA and preventing these bacteria growth spread hence relieving the symptoms. It is bactericidal and works by killing bacteria that cause infections. It prevents the division of bacterial cells and inhibits the repairing of bacterial cells. Altogether it kills the bacteria. SATRANIDAZOLE does not treat a viral infection like flu or a common cold.
Take SATRANIDAZOLE as prescribed. You are advised to take SATRANIDAZOLE for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you depending on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects such as nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness, dizziness, dry mouth, and metallic taste. Most of these side effects of SATRANIDAZOLE do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Kills the harmful anaerobic bacteria and certain anaerobic protozoa (Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia) causing diarrhea. SATRANIDAZOLE; being bactericidal in nature kills the harmful bacteria by damaging its DNA and preventing these bacteria growth spread hence relieving the symptoms. SATRANIDAZOLE is two times more active than other nitroimidazoles like metronidazole against amoebiasis and giardiasis and anaerobes.
If you are allergic to SATRANIDAZOLE or any other antibacterial or anti-amoebic agents, please inform your doctor to avoid any unwanted side effects like swallowing or breathing problems, and swelling of your lips, face, throat, or tongue. Let your doctor know if you use any prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking, including vitamins, and herbal supplements before starting SATRANIDAZOLE. Do not take SATRANIDAZOLE on your own as self-medication may lead to antibiotic resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, please inform your doctor before using SATRANIDAZOLE. Do not drink alcohol with SATRANIDAZOLE as it may cause flushing and drowsiness which can alter your mental alertness.
Drug-Drug Interaction: SATRANIDAZOLE have interactions with medicines to stop your blood clotting (coumarins, warfarin), medicines used to treat alcohol addiction (disulfiram).
Drug-Food Interaction: The consumption of alcoholic beverages should be avoided as it may lead to flushing, drowsiness, and dizziness.
Drug-Disease Interaction: If you have liver problems, muscle problems (myasthenia gravis), heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia), kidney problems, please inform your doctor before taking SATRANIDAZOLE.
You are recommended not to consume alcohol along with SATRANIDAZOLE to avoid unpleasant side-effects.
The safety of SATRANIDAZOLE in pregnant women is unknown. Therefore, it is given to pregnant women only if the doctor thinks the benefits outweigh the risks.
It is unknown whether SATRANIDAZOLE is excreted in human milk. It is given to breastfeeding mothers only if the doctor thinks the benefits are greater than the risks.
SATRANIDAZOLE can cause dizziness in some patients. If you feel dizzy, please do not operate the car.
