Mupiroc Ointment

Mupirocin ointment is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial skin infections. It is used for conditions such as impetigo (a contagious skin infection that causes sores or blisters), folliculitis (infected hair follicles that appear as small pus-filled pimples), and furunculosis (boils). It can be used in adults, adolescents, children, and infants aged 4 weeks and older. It works by killing bacteria that commonly cause skin infections, including Staphylococcus aureus (including some resistant types such as MRSA), other staphylococci, streptococci, and certain other bacteria. Most people tolerate it well, but possible side effects may include mild burning or stinging at the application site, redness, itching, skin soreness, or, rarely, an allergic rash. If severe irritation or signs of an allergic reaction occur, stop using the ointment and consult your healthcare provider.
