As you are experiencing increased palpitations, anxiety, and worsening jaw tension after taking high‑dose vitamin D, it is important that you consult your doctor promptly rather than adjusting the dose yourself. A weekly dose of 60,000 IU is a standard treatment for severe vitamin D deficiency, but some patients do develop side effects. Given your background of IBS and gastritis, your doctor will likely want to reassess your symptoms, review your current medications, and may arrange further investigations, such as calcium and magnesium levels or a heart rhythm assessment, before deciding if any changes to your vitamin D regimen are necessary. Please do not alter your treatment plan independently; ongoing medical supervision is essential to ensure safe and effective management.
What are the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency?
Dr Bayyarapu Kumar
M Pharmacy
Vitamin D deficiency can cause bone pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, recurrent infections, hair loss, delayed wound healing, reduced immune function, and mood changes. In children, it may lead to rickets; in adults, to osteomalacia, in which bones become soft and painful. Symptoms may be subtle; therefore, a serum 25‑hydroxyvitamin D measurement is required to confirm deficiency. Treatment includes safe sun exposure, dietary changes, and supplementation under medical supervision.

No. There is no standard dosage of Vitamin D3 for a 77‑year‑old; the regimen must be individualized based on vitamin D status, bone health, comorbidities, and therapeutic response, and should always be prescribed and monitored by a physician.
My doctor has asked me to take Vitamin D3 60000 IU capsules. Is this capsule safe to take?
