I have a 6-month-old baby, and I feel my blood and iron levels may be low. Which tablet can I take to increase my iron and blood levels?

Low iron levels can occur after delivery due to blood loss and increased nutritional needs. Iron supplements with folic acid are commonly used to help increase haemoglobin and improve iron stores in the body. Eating iron-rich foods such as green leafy vegetables, lentils, dates, and jaggery can also support recovery. Consult a doctor and check your haemoglobin level before starting any iron tablet, so the right medicine and dose can be advised.

I am 13 weeks pregnant and taking Autrin capsules for iron. My hemoglobin is 9.2 and I am having loose motions after taking this medicine. Is this due to the iron tablets and is there any Ayurvedic alternative I can take?

Iron tablets such as Autrin can sometimes cause stomach upset or loose motions in some people. However, treating low haemoglobin during pregnancy is very important for both the mother and the baby. Taking the tablet after food may help reduce stomach discomfort. Consult your doctor before stopping or switching to Ayurvedic medicines, so the safest option for your pregnancy can be advised.

Drug-Drug Interactions: Autrin Capsule may have interaction with antibacterial medications (nitrofurantoin), anticancer medications (methotrexate), antiparasitic medications (pyrimethamine), and anticonvulsant medications (phenobarbital, phenytoin, primidone).

Drug-Food Interactions: Avoid consuming milk, milk products, tea, coffee, meat, whole grains at the same time as taking Autrin Capsule , as they might affect the absorption of Autrin Capsule .

Drug-Disease Interactions: Autrin Capsule may have interactions with disease conditions such as blood disorder and stomach ulcers.

Co-administration of Folic acid with Fluorouracil may increase the risk or severity of side effects.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Folic acid and Fluorouracil but can be taken if prescribed by a doctor. Contact a doctor if you experience severe nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, paleness of skin, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, unusual bleeding or bruising, blood in the stools, fever, chills, body aches, flu-like symptoms, skin reactions, mouth ulcers or sores, and/or numbness, burning or tingling in your hands and feet. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.

Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
