Fefol Spansule Capsule is used to treat anaemia (deficiency of iron and haemoglobin). Its deficiency occurs mainly due to poor diet, poor absorption of food or increased folate use in the body (in pregnancy). It contains Iron and Folic acid, which work by boosting the production of red blood cells (RBC) in the body. As a result, an adequate number of RBCs are produced in the body, so that body's each tissue gets a sufficient supply of oxygen. It may cause side effects such as constipation, dry mouth, loss of appetite, bloating, and diarrhoea in some cases. Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you are allergic to any of its components or if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, and about all the medications you are taking and pre-existing medical conditions.

Drug-Drug Interaction: Fefol Spansule Capsule may interact with medicines used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (penicillamine, sulfasalazine), blood cholesterol (cholestyramine), Parkinson's disease (levodopa, carbidopa), thyroid disease (thyroxine), bone disease (bisphosphonates), certain cancers (aminopterin, methotrexate), malaria (pyrimethamine), Wilson's disease (trientine), antibiotics (cotrimoxazole, chloramphenicol, tetracyclines).

Drug-Food Interaction: Fefol Spansule Capsule should not be taken along with alcohol, dairy products, and eggs as it might affect Fefol Spansule Capsule absorption in the body.

Drug-Disease Interaction: Inform your doctor if you have or ever had a stomach ulcer, vitamin B12 deficiency, any blood disorder, repeated blood transfusions, ulcerative colitis (inflammation of the colon), anaemia, folate tumour.

How does the drug interact with Fefol Spansule Capsule:
Co-administration of Folic acid and Ferrous sulfate with Capecitabine may increase the risk of serious side effects such as bleeding problems, anemia(low number of red blood cells), infections, and nerve damage.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Folic acid and Ferrous sulfate with Capecitabine, you can use these medicines together if prescribed by the doctor. However, if you experience paleness of skin, fainting, unusual bleeding, blood in the stools, burning or tingling in your hands and feet, contact a doctor. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.

How does the drug interact with Fefol Spansule Capsule:
Co-administration of Dimercaprol with Folic acid and Ferrous sulfate may increase the risk of side effects of the kidneys.

How to manage the interaction:
Co-administration of Folic acid and Ferrous sulfate with Dimercaprol can possibly result in an interaction, but it can be taken if a doctor has advised it. It is advised to maintain a gap of 24 hours between both drugs. Do not discontinue any medications without consulting a doctor.

Taking dolutegravir with ferrous sulfate and Folic acid can reduce the effectiveness of dolutegravir in treating HIV.

How to manage the interaction:
Although there is a possible interaction between Ferrous sulfate and Folic acid with Dolutegravir, you can use these medicines together if prescribed by a doctor. It is advised to take dolutegravir either two hours before or six hours after taking a dose of Ferrous sulfate and Folic acid. Do not discontinue using any medications without consulting a doctor.
