When Should You Consider Switching from Hard-Q Lotion?

Patients may explore substitutes in the following scenarios:

  • High monthly cost of Hard-Q Lotion

  • Generic recommendation by a doctor
  • Side effects or better tolerability with alternatives

What to Know Before Switching

Before you switch from Hard-Q Lotion to another medicine, here are some important points to keep in mind:

Same salt, different brands:

Most substitutes contain the same active ingredient - LACTIC ACID-16.7%W/W + SALICYLIC ACID-16.7%W/W, but the fillers, coating, or manufacturing quality may vary slightly.

Consult your doctor first:

Even if the salt is the same, your doctor can confirm if the substitute is right for your condition, dosage, and health history.

Watch out for allergies or reactions:

Some people may react differently to certain brands due to inactive ingredients. If you notice any side effects, inform your doctor immediately.

Price ≠ effectiveness:

A lower-priced substitute doesn't mean it's less effective. Many generic medicines work just as well as branded ones.

Check the dosage form and strength:

Always match the substitute’s strength (e.g., 5mg, 10mg) and form (tablet, capsule, syrup) with what your doctor prescribed.

Uses

Hard-Q Lotion is used in the treatment of skin conditions such as warts, veruccas, calluses, and corns. The detailed uses of Hard-Q Lotion are as follows:

  • Treats Warts and Verrucas (Plantar Warts): Hard-Q Lotion helps remove warts (noncancerous excessive skin growths) by breaking down and dissolving keratin (a skin protein) and killing the human papillomavirus that causes them.
  • Treats Corns and Calluses: Hard-Q Lotion helps soften and break down thick, hardened skin by reducing keratin build-up, making it easier to remove corns and calluses.

Medicinal Benefits

Hard-Q Lotion is a combination of two keratolytic agents, Lactic acid and Salicylic acid, used in the treatment of skin conditions like warts and the removal of calluses and corns. Hard-Q Lotion breaks down and dissolves a skin protein known as keratin and removes dead skin cells, thereby softening skin. Lactic acid also possesses antiviral properties and kills the virus that causes verrucas and warts.

Hard-Q Lotion contains Lactic acid and Salicylic acid that works by breaking down a skin protein known as keratin and removes dead skin cells, thereby softening the skin. Thereby, helps in the removal of warts, corns and calluses.

Verrucas and warts are caused by a virus and can be contagious (spread from person to person through close skin contact or contaminated surfaces), especially if the skin is damaged or wet. Therefore, avoid sharing towels, pumice stones or other things with others to prevent the spread of infection.

Hard-Q Lotion is highly flammable (catches fire and burns easily). Therefore, avoid smoking or going near naked flames after applying Hard-Q Lotion.

Hard-Q Lotion may cause irritation of the skin if it comes in contact with healthy skin. Therefore, apply Hard-Q Lotion carefully only on the top of warts, verrucas, calluses and corns and avoid surrounding normal skin. However, if the irritation persists or worsens, please consult a doctor.

You are recommended to use Hard-Q Lotion for as long as your doctor has prescribed it. However, if the condition persists or worsens after 12 weeks of treatment with Hard-Q Lotion, please consult a doctor.

Wash your hands before and after applying Hard-Q Lotion. You are advised to soak the affected area in warm water for 2-3 minutes and let it dry thoroughly. Apply a thin coating of Hard-Q Lotion to the top of warts, verrucas, calluses and corns only. Then, let it dry for a few minutes to form a small white patch that is water-resistant and sticks to the treated area. The next evening, before applying the Hard-Q Lotion, carefully peel off the white patch and repeat the same process. Avoid contact of Hard-Q Lotion with normal skin, nose, mouth, eyes, breasts, armpits or genital area. If it accidentally comes into contact with these areas, rinse with water thoroughly.

If you accidentally apply Hard-Q Lotion to normal skin, it may cause irritation, redness, or a burning sensation. Immediately wash the affected area with soap and water to remove the solution. However, consult your doctor if you experience severe or persistent irritation.
