Avycord 2.5 gm Infusion is a prescription antibiotic given by intravenous (IV) infusion to treat serious bacterial infections. Doctors prescribe it for conditions such as complicated urinary tract infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, and hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP), including ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP). It works by killing the bacteria responsible for these infections. This medicine does not treat viral illnesses such as the common cold or flu.

Because this medicine is given directly into a vein, it is administered at regular intervals to maintain effective antibiotic levels in your bloodstream. Your doctor may collect samples for bacterial culture and sensitivity testing before or during treatment to help ensure the antibiotic is effective against the bacteria causing your infection. Continue the full course of treatment exactly as prescribed, even if you start feeling better.

During treatment, staying well hydrated, eating a balanced diet, and getting enough rest can support your recovery. Since this medicine is given by IV infusion, there are no specific food restrictions unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Most people tolerate this medicine well, although mild side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, headache, or pain at the injection site may occur. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe watery or bloody diarrhea, persistent abdominal pain, severe skin rash, difficulty breathing, or signs of an allergic reaction.

Before starting treatment, tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, epilepsy or seizure disorders, or a history of bowel inflammation such as colitis. Do not receive this medicine if you have previously had a severe allergic reaction to cephalosporin antibiotics or a serious immediate reaction to penicillin or other beta-lactam antibiotics.

Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking, especially aminoglycoside antibiotics or strong diuretics, as these may increase the risk of kidney problems. Although there is no known direct interaction with alcohol, limiting or avoiding alcohol during a serious infection may help your body recover and reduce worsening of symptoms such as nausea or dizziness. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for an older adult receiving this medicine, discuss the benefits and risks with your healthcare provider.
