About Chemifix-AZ Tablet

Chemifix-AZ Tablet is a combination prescription medication used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for infections of the respiratory tract, throat, ears, urinary tract, and certain typhoid fevers. By targeting the source of the infection, this medication helps eliminate harmful bacteria and supports your recovery.

The choice of antibiotic depends on the type of bacteria and local antibiotic resistance patterns. Your doctor may recommend culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing where appropriate to help select the most effective treatment, particularly for persistent or severe infections.

For this medicine to work effectively, you must take it consistently and at the exact intervals prescribed by your doctor. You can take it with or without food, though taking it with a meal may reduce the risk of an upset stomach. Drinking plenty of water and getting adequate rest during your treatment will also help your body heal faster.

Before you begin taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney disease, liver problems, or severe intestinal disorders. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to cefixime, azithromycin, Lactobacillus, or any of its ingredients. Tell your doctor if you have a history of allergy to penicillin or other cephalosporin antibiotics, as there is a small risk of cross-reactivity with cefixime.

Certain medicines, such as blood thinners or indigestion remedies, can affect how it works in your body. It is also best to avoid alcohol during your treatment, as it can worsen stomach irritation and dehydration. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for an elderly patient, talk to your doctor before starting this medication.

Uses of Chemifix-AZ Tablet

Your doctor may recommend this combination medicine to help manage the following conditions:

  • Respiratory tract infections: It helps clear bacterial infections of the lungs, airways, and throat by stopping bacterial growth and easing breathing difficulties.
  • Ear and tonsil infections: This medication targets harmful bacteria in the ENT (ear, nose, and throat) region, reducing painful swelling and congestion.
  • Typhoid fever: This medicine may be prescribed for typhoid fever when considered appropriate by your doctor. As antibiotic resistance is increasingly common, treatment should be guided by culture and antibiotic sensitivity test results whenever possible.
  • Prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea: Including beneficial bacteria, it helps maintain a healthy balance in your digestive tract, preventing the severe diarrhoea often caused by strong antibiotics.

Key Benefits

When taken consistently as directed, this medicine may provide the following physiological benefits:

  • Fights bacterial infections effectively: Combines two antibiotics that work in different ways to treat a wide range of bacterial infections. Your doctor selects this combination based on the suspected bacteria, and culture and sensitivity testing may be recommended where appropriate to guide treatment.
  • Provides faster symptom relief: Helps reduce the infection and relieve symptoms, supporting a quicker recovery and return to daily activities.
  • Supports gut health: Contains beneficial digestive cultures that help restore the natural balance of bacteria in the gut during antibiotic treatment.
  • Helps reduce antibiotic-associated diarrhoea: Supports healthy gut flora, which may help lower the risk of diarrhoea and digestive discomfort while completing the prescribed antibiotic course.

Directions for Use

  • Chemifix-AZ Tablet can be taken with or without food as advised by your doctor.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions on the dosage and timing of this medication for accurate results.
  • Swallow the whole tablet with a glass of water.

How Chemifix-AZ Tablet Works

This combination medicine contains three active components: Cefixime, Azithromycin and Lactobacillus that work together to cure infections and protect your digestive tract. Cefixime is an antibiotic that works by preventing bacteria from forming their protective outer wall. Without this wall, the bacteria cannot survive and eventually die. Azithromycin is another antibiotic that stops bacteria from making the essential proteins they need to grow and multiply. By preventing bacterial growth, it allows your body's immune system to clear the remaining infection. Together, cefixime and azithromycin fight bacteria through different but complementary mechanisms, helping treat a broad range of bacterial infections. Lactobacillus is a beneficial probiotic. Since antibiotics can also reduce the helpful bacteria in your gut, Lactobacillus helps temporarily restore the natural balance of gut bacteria, which may reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea and support digestive health during your recovery.

FAQs

Chemifix-AZ Tablet belongs to the group of medicines called antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections of the ear, skin, nose, throat, chest, lungs, and urinary tract.
Chemifix-AZ Tablet prevents the formation of bacterial cell covering, which is necessary for the survival of the bacteria and inhibits the synthesis of essential proteins which are required for the survival of the bacteria. Thereby, kills the bacteria and helps in treating bacterial infections.
Do not take Chemifix-AZ Tablet on your own, as self-medication may lead to antibiotic resistance in which antibiotics fail to act against specific bacterial infections.
No. Do not stop taking Chemifix-AZ Tablet even if you start feeling better. Complete the full course prescribed by your doctor. Stopping treatment too early may allow the remaining bacteria to multiply, causing the infection to return and increasing the risk of antibiotic resistance. If you experience severe side effects or have difficulty continuing the medicine, consult your doctor before stopping it.
Yes, dairy products do not significantly affect absorption, but food may influence absorption. Follow the instructions provided with your medicine, and ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure about the best time to take it with food or dairy.
While antibiotics can sometimes cause diarrhoea, Chemifix-AZ Tablet contains beneficial lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus), which help restore the balance of good bacteria in the gut and reduce this risk. If you develop severe, persistent, or watery diarrhoea, contact your doctor immediately. Do not stop the medicine on your own unless advised by your doctor.
Medicine should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed and specifically prescribed by your doctor. Your healthcare provider will weigh the benefits of treating the infection against any potential risks to the developing baby. Talk to your doctor before starting this medication.
It is highly recommended to avoid alcohol while taking this medicine. Alcohol can increase side effects like dizziness, headache, and stomach upset, and it can also dehydrate your body, slowing down your recovery process. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose. If you frequently miss doses, consult your pharmacist or doctor for advice.
You should avoid taking antacids that contain aluminium or magnesium within two hours of taking it. These minerals can bind to the antibiotic in your stomach, preventing your body from absorbing it fully. Talk to your pharmacist to schedule your medications safely.
No, this medicine is formulated specifically to treat bacterial infections. It will not work against viral infections like the common cold, flu, or viral bronchitis. Using antibiotics for viral infections can lead to antibiotic resistance. Talk to your doctor to confirm the source of your infection.
