About Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet

Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet is used to treat Type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is a common condition that causes the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood to become too high. It's a lifelong condition that can affect your everyday life. You may need to change your diet, take medicines and have regular check-ups to lead a normal life.

Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet is composed of Empagliflozin and Metformin. This medicine works by blocking the sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT-2) enzyme. This lowers renal reabsorption of glucose and increases urine excretion of glucose via inhibiting SGLT2.

In some cases, you may experience certain common side effects, such as frequent urination, mild skin rash or itchy skin, or diarrhoea, stomach ache, and loss of appetite. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and will resolve gradually over time. However, you are advised to talk to your doctor if you experience these side effects persistently.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or worsens (if your blood sugar is too high or too low).

Do not consume Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet if you are allergic to any component present in Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet . If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet . What if I have taken an overdose of Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet

Take Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet only as prescribed by the physician. Avoid exceeding the recommended dose as it could lead to an overdose. Overdose of Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet may cause lactic acidosis. Symptoms may include trouble breathing, unusual muscle pain, weakness, and irregular heartbeats. If you experience these symptoms or suspect you have taken an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Drug Warnings

  • Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to empagliflozin and Metformin, or have other allergies.
  • This product may contain inactive ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or other adverse effects.
  • Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet should not be stopped even if you feel better, without consulting your doctor, as your sugar level keeps changing.
  • If you stop taking Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet abruptly, it may increase your sugar levels, which could further increase the risk of eyesight loss (retinopathy), kidney (nephropathy), and nerve damage (neuropathy).
  • Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet should not be taken if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus or severe kidney or liver disease.
  • It's generally not recommended to take empagliflozin during pregnancy/breastfeeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
  • Cospiaq Met 12.5/500 Tablet is only for adults (from 18 years). It is not recommended for anyone aged 85 years or older.
  • It may be harder to control your blood sugar when your body is stressed (such as when you have a fever, infection, injury, or surgery). 
  • Also, if you eat less or cannot eat due to these conditions or any illness, this can lead to other side effects while taking this medication.

It is safe to take empagliflozin for a long time. There is no proof that this medication is harmful to your overall health.

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.
