About Elfecol Syrup

Elfecol Syrup is used to treat symptoms of the common cold and allergies like sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, fever, headache, body pains, congestion, or watery eyes. The common cold is a respiratory illness affecting the nose and throat. 

Elfecol Syrup is a combination of Paracetamol, Phenylephrine and Chlorpheniramine. Paracetamol inhibits the production of prostaglandins. Phenylephrine works by shrinking the blood vessels in the nasal passage. Chlorpheniramine blocks the action of histamine, which is responsible for causing allergic reactions.

Elfecol Syrup may cause common side effects such as drowsiness, nervousness, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, constipation, and dry mouth. Most of these side effects do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If your child is allergic to Elfecol Syrup or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Please do not give more than the prescribed dose of Elfecol Syrup to your child as it may cause severe liver damage or allergic reactions.

What if I have taken an overdose of Elfecol Syrup

Please do not exceed the recommended dose, as it might cause an overdose. Signs and symptoms of an overdose of Elfecol Syrup may include confusion, loss of appetite, nausea, pain in your upper stomach, dark urine, yellowing of your skin or the whites of your eyes, stomach pain, sweating, vomiting, and weakness. Seek immediate medical attention if you observe any symptoms or think you have taken too much. Do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.

Diet & Lifestyle Advise

Diet

  • Include plenty of foods rich in good bacteria, like yoghurt, in your child's diet to improve overall health.
  • Make your child drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
  • Avoid giving spicy foods, as they worsen dehydration or irritation, especially if your child have cold or sinus symptoms.

Lifestyle changes

  • Wash your child’s hands with soap and water regularly to prevent the spread of germs.
  • Gargle with salt water for relief from sore throat.
  • Avoid exposure to cold air and pollution.

How Soon It Starts Working

The time required for Elfecol Syrup to start to work: Elfecol Syrup ideally shows its action within 30 to 60 minutes after administration. 

The time for which the effects of Elfecol Syrup last: The effect of Elfecol Syrup lasts for 4 to 6 hours.

What if you forget to take Elfecol Syrup

If you miss administering a dose, give it to your child as soon as you remember. If it's nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Storage

• Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight.• Keep Elfecol Syrup out of reach and sight of children.• Non cold chain - To be stored in cool places at 10ºC to 25ºC or below 30ºC.

Drug Warnings

  • If your child is allergic to Elfecol Syrup or any other medicines, please tell your doctor.
  • Please do not give more than the prescribed dose of Elfecol Syrup to your child as it may cause serious liver damage or allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, mouth, and throat, difficulty in breathing, itching or rash.
  • If your child has chronic bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), blockage in the stomach or intestines, pheochromocytoma (tumour in the adrenal glands), kidney, liver, heart or urinary problems, inform your doctor.

In rare cases, paracetamol present in Elfecol Syrup may cause a severe skin allergic reaction. So, if you observe any skin blisters, redness or rash, stop taking Elfecol Syrup and immediately contact your doctor.
